I have a Vizio XVT473SV with no video or audio, but the Vizio standby lights up.

I would say its most likely the power supply. Quite often after a power surge this can happen. Another option could be that the surge just blew the fuse on the power supply board and replacing that may be all you need. That said, usually you will get no signs of life at all if the fuse blows.

Lightning hit near house tv will not power on can it be repaired

Many things can happen when a power surge comes into your home. In the best cases, the fuse in the TV may be the only thing to replace. And in other cases the surge can travel inside of the TV to literally explode transistors, varistors , and bulge capacitors. In some cases the internal TV will look fine (still not power up). This is why you take your TV to a service center for a diagnostic check. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Power supply board have power surge parts, but not totally dead,it just giving to much power some where, that why it keep killing ur fuse. This problems,u must have great electronic skills to track it down.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.Power surges are rarely happen, but the surge protector will stop massive power will go the protector when it happen instead all the power will go to the tv itself.

Tv does not turn on after a thunderstorm and several attempts at power returning to the home. The power went on briefly then shut off several times, now the television will not turn on. We had the tv...

Check the main fuse in the power supply, the TV also has small surge protection devices (MOVs) installed after the fuse, any surges the come along and big enough will cause the main AC fuse to blow. When you surge protector, EVERY connections must go through the surge protector, for example, the AC cord of the TV is connected to the surge protector, the cable connection did not go through the surge protection, the surge then can get to the TV through the cables.

No power on Samsung TV after storm

Hello Zkarim,

I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate new's. I had the same problem in my own home maybe a week ago.

Basically if your power flickered on and off at anytime during this storm then there was a power surge that probably fried your TV.
* First check the power where the tv was plugged in. Is it a power strip or a surge protector ? Surge protectors typically have an on/off switch and a separate reset push button.

If it is a power strip then the tv fried because there was nothing to stop it from happening (not even the fuse). If it was plugged into a surge protector then it could be quiet a few years old and not as reliable or the surge was to powerful for the limit on the surge protector.

The only thing you can do personally is send it in for repair if it's under warranty, if it is not then you can have it looked at by an authorized repair technician in your area. Troubleshooting should be fairly low, and you will at least be able to find out your options once they find the defected part.

Thank you for choosing Fixya!

Good Day;

Two things normally happens after a L storm:1.) One must unplug TV for 5 minutes, then plug back in. 2.) Main glass fuse out, will be near a/c cord. 3.( Power regulator IC may be out. Try these first.

Good Luck!

No Power to TV

There is no reset button on these new sets, your set has complete power problem since you have no lights no clicks, this might have happen because of lightning or power surge, either one creates a lot of damage,if you are familiar with tv service you can check the main fuse,he should be close to where the power cord comes in,if you find the fuse blown it needs to be replaced with an exact replacement for AMPS rating and VOLTS rating as well as size,if the fuse is blown black we might have more problems ahead in the circuit and it will blow up again as sonn as you plug the tv back in,if it blows again it will need a more involved repair, the problem could be in the primary side of the power supply,if you are not too familiar you should seek the help of a servicer a least for an estimate but if you suspect power surge or lighting damage dont invest any more on this set and get a new one.
