Keys on laptop not working

My toddler pressed something and now when I go to log in the only keys on the keyboard that work are the backspace and space bar, cap lock, tab and enter. Any ideas how to undo this?

Im afraid to suggest this but if his/her hands were wet which I suspect might be it the keyboard might be killed by the water but only selective keys are working.

Since this is a Compaq do you have HP's ADP plan for it?
If you do they will fix that for free. Mind you it will take 2 weeks.

And I know this is more of a comment than a solution but is probably what happened.

Key stuck on (keys are loose, not actually stuck) but works ok with external keyboard

There's more than likely something sticky in your keyboard, someone probably spilled liquid in there and now it's sticking as though your pressing even though you aren't.
A new keyboard will fix this problem.

My HP Pavilion dv7-3080us is having a keyboard problem. Pressing F8, or Backspace does nothing. The problem occured soon after purchasing the computer and simultaneously for both keys. The keys doesn't...

The keyboard got busted. If it has warranty send it back else you can shop for a replacement keyboard online. They are easy to install and doesn't require much work.

H, G and backspace keys stoppe working on

Though you could be having a hardware problem with just faulty keyboard keys, it could also be a trojan virus where someone has disabled those keys.

I advise rule out the virus with Mcafee virus free scan: http://us.mcafee.com/root/campaign.asp?cid=45694

you should also use a "trojan" scanner. (the type of virus)

Keyboard problem: multiple letters when one is pressed

sorry but even a small amount of liquid can work its way under the keys. you could try getting a can of compressed air to dissipate the liquid that has seeped under the keys, if not then you will need a new keyboard or take the keyboard apart

N, H, T and Backspace keys suddenly not working.

You can try blowing it out with compressed air, but you will probably need to remove the keyboard to make sure nothing was spilled or stuck in there. You should be able to remove the keyboard by removing the battery, then removing the keyboard securing strip, and then you should be able to take a screwdriver and pry the keyboard up and out.

Keyboard not working on acer travelmate 2350

it could be the sensors are damaged under the keys, but hopefully its just the driver. Right click on my computer icon and click properties and then the hardware tab, then device manager and look down the list for keyboard. Click the + sign and then right click on your keyboard under that and select uninstal. Restart the notebook and it will reinstall itself and hopfully work as it should do, if not then the keyboard itself is damaged in some way.
