First you need to know what is your motherbord.Manufacturer name and model.
If the motherboard incude a sound module (if you have soud input output ) at the rear of your computer you must upgrade the sound driver for vista at the manufacturer website.
If you have a sound board in a slot connector you may know the type of the board and the manufacturer name.download the driver at the manufacturer website and install it.
For your facility you can see in the configuration pannel in the folder system if your sound board is recognised by vista If the sound board appears in the list of the materials see the version of the driver if is one and try to change it for a newer driver for vista.
