Are you in power saver mode? is it a wired or wireless machine? you could try running the setup disk, if you are in wireless it should straighten out the problem. Power it up and try reinstalling. Wire it to the laptop and run the setup, it will let you know when you can remove the wire, thanks and good luck,Gym .

Ok see now it makes sense, go into control panel, than power options and the change the power off and other options so that the computer doesn't go into sleep mode. Always on. you can still have your screen saver go on after 30 minutes or whatever time frame you like. Disable hibernation, and you should be ok, the machine was going to sleep, and not alowing the fax to work.

Your fax machine can work independently from your operating system. Print the document and try to manually fax from the fax machine. See if there is an error message on the fax when you try. Then if it doesn't work , post the new error from the fax machine.

Brother mfc-7840w won't receive fax

The first thing that I would try multiple people to ask them to fax you.Sometimes the 2 machines don't "sync".This is a toll free fax test number that I always use to check my machines..1-888-473-2963.Just write the words "FAX TEST" in large letters on a blank sheet of paper..fax it to that number...leave the line open...you should get a fax back in about a minute. If you get a fax back...your machine is fine...let me know if this was helpful....thanks.

MFC-7840w printer, how do i take it off sleep mode?

  • The control panel features a series of buttons as well as an LED "Status" screen.

  • Press the "MENU" button. Go to INITIAL SETUP, select "FAX" select "RECEIVE MODE" change to F/T
  • If you are using the Brother on a line by itself, set it to "Fax." If you are using the Brother on a line that also shares a telephone, set it to "Fax/Telephone." If you are using the Brother IntelliFax along with ananswering machine, set it to "TAD." Once you set your IntelliFax to the appropriate mode, the unit will leave "Sleep" mode and be ready for use.
  • Select "GENERAL SETUP" go to "ECOLOGY" and #2 is SLEEP TIME = adjust to 60 sec. This keeps the machine from becoming idle/sleep mode for a longer period.
