Same problem. It ran on battery power until it went dead, but won't charge or anything.

Does the green LED turn on on the power adapter when the adapter is plugged in to the wall?

I actually contacted Acer by email for this and got a reply in less than a day.

Try the steps below for a power reset, to eliminate a hardware problem with your notebook:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds then release it. (You will not see anything happen)

4. Connect the AC Adapter to the laptop. Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in.

5. Turn the computer on as normal.

6. Once Windows boots, insert the battery.

If the notebook still does not power on, we recommend the notebook be serviced by our authorized repair depot. You can set this up for service yourself by going to www.acerpanam.com; click on the link for Depot Repair. If the 5315 has a reset button like the 5050, remove the battery, hold the start key down with the laptop unplugged for 15 -20 secs. Then activate the reset button for 10 seconds. Plug in the laptop without the battery and press the start button.  If no boot - then hopefully your system is still under warranty because the main board will likely need replacing.  Tech discussion forums are filled  with posts about Acers in the 5000 series that  fail to power up.

most probably it is the motherboard. try to turn on the computer using the ac adapter without the battery. if the problem is the same, the motherboard is already defective.

Acer aspire 5315 freezes only when plugged in to power adapter

The problem could be the CMOS battery
Please allow unit to be on power adapter overninght and see if the CMOS will be recharged anew. Another cause for a freeze could be interrupted update,so let the computer complete its updates or restore to before an update may have been interruped. The other possibity would be defective hardware.

Acer Aspire 5315 won't power up. The AC adapter has a green light on it, so it appears to be getting power. The battery indicator light does not light up at all when I try to power it up. Do you think it...

There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.

If this did not help, try disassembling the laptop & re-seating its main components like the memory modules, hard disk drive, CD/DVD drive, etc.

I have an acer aspire 5920 and it will not power on. It stopped working while someone was using it. I've already taken out the battery and unplugged it, nothing worked.

sounds like the power adapter or the unit itself. hopefully, it's just the power adapter-- was there/is there a light on it that tells you its plugged in or charging the computer? is that light still on when you plug in the computer to charge it? if not, call acer for a new power adapter, it's usually free if you're under warranty. if it's on, you may be in trouble that the computer is dead-- maybe a fried motherboard. to replace a motherboard is probably 200 bucks, to get a new low-end laptop is 499.... at least in the US, I dont know where you are,

My Aspire 5315 will not start.

Is there a slider on the bottom that you can switch over? This is known as a transit button. It sort of 'locks' the machine for safety reasons when it is being transported.

try that.
