Question about Dell 948 All-In-One InkJet Printer

15 Answers

My Dell 948 prints VERY slowly.

I had a virus over the summer that I finally was able to remove. However, upon removal of the virus I was left with a new problem (and I'm not even sure if they are related) and that is my printer works incredibly slowly. By that I mean, it is a 2 minute wait for one page to print, and multiple page documents won't even work. Nor can I print Adobe docs or pdf docs either. I have checked spool settings, removed the software and reinstalled it. I have unplugged all cords and rebooted the printer a zillion times. I have tried every tech tip I could find...to no avail.

Suggestions would be great.

I have tried and re-tried all of these suggestions...as I stated in my first post. I re-tried them again, per your direction, and still no improvement.

    I need further direction...please.

That didn't work either. If I buy a new printer can this same problem continue? Or will a new printer and software fix it. I am willing to buy a whole new printer just so I don't have to wait sooooooo long for my printing.

Hmm it could be one of the drivers was corrupted by the virus or antivirus (yes it happens)...

Try this

1.) unplug the printers usb cable from the computer
2.) right click on my computer click properties then device manager
3.) right click anywhere in device manager and scan for new hardware changes
4.) restart
5.) right click on my computer click properties then device manager
6.) right click anywhere in device manager and scan for new hardware changes
7.) click start then printers and faxes
8.) click the printer icon and press delete
9.) plug the cable back in in a different usb port
10) the computer will detect and reinstall the printer as a new printer and that will solve all your problems
incase it doesnt happen automatically do steps 2 and 3 ..

There are only to reasons for the printer taking a long time to print and eject the page, a fault/system problem, or incorrect resolution settings.

To start enable the spooler again, and before printing go to printer settings and lower down the printou resolution.

If this does not fix it, you test printer on a different computer, if printer is OK, reinstall Windows on first computer.

The most likely is always incorrect resolution settings.

Try this first, get into the device manager, start, settings, devicemanager, system, hardware, device manager, will see all your printer listed, you may see more than 1, highlight all printers and un install, on a restart it will say found new hardware and ask you if you have the disk, put in the disk and re install the drivers and you should be good to go, it's going to fix any conflict that may have been caused by the virus removing or corrupting your file system, good luck

I would suggest it is something along the lines of not enough memory... a possible incorrect driver... or spyware + too many programs running at one time. spyware is fairly easily fixed. download a program called spybot s&d. install it and update it then perform a scan.... defrag your computer as well. after you have done that if there is no marked improvement i'll explain how to reduce the amount of program that run at start up.

You need to remove the software then restart the computer switch off the printer and then turn it back on then reinstall the software that will take care of the issue.

Additional troubleshooting:

>by-pass Spool - Printer Properties -> Advance tab - options to play with, print direct & disable advance printing features

>Spool makes temporary files for print jobs - clear $:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS directory

>after printer driver uninstall - clear $:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\ or via (Printers & Faxes -> File -> Server Properties -> Drivers tab)

else;
virus made a big mess
back up personal data
re-install windows
getting a new printer wont make the issue go away

I'm sure, virus is still in your PC and disturbing the function of printer software / driver.

Once I had virus in my PC, installed many anti virus software, updated, but non of them worked and at last I have had to format HDD and reinstalled Windows, drivers etc.

I would recommend to take backup of necessary files, format HDD through Sea-gate hard disk utility (I used it), create new partitions, reinstall Windows, drivers etc

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls download, install and run AdAware. Run in Normal and Safe Mode. List down file(s) it would find/quarantine in the C:Windows. After it has scanned/cleaned in Safe Mode, run regedit. Find all references to those files that you listed. Delete those registry entries. Safe Practice dictates that you backup your registry and should be comfortable working with registry modifications.

Of course, the best would be to do a complete clean, fresh install of the OS.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Let's try this. Send a doc to the printer.
Open up Event Viewer (Start->Run, type eventvwr)
Under either System or Applications, see if there is any warning or error relating to the printer.

Let's go from there.

Just for kicks i would try using a different connection to your computer. If you use USB then try the parallel port or visa versa.

Hi
Few things to check start -> run -> type in services.msc make sure service named as printer spooler is started, if not right click properties startup type automatic and start, close window.
Check the printing preferences, check quality set it to normal. Check that the printer is set to use the print spooler.
It might be easyer to reinstall the printer, so remove the printer software from the computer, install the software and drivers again.

Paper jam

Here are some useful steps you can try:

try to power cycle the printer for about 2 mins. then try a test print with just single paper

Make sure that the paper is aligned properly.

You can also check if there's any foreign object stuck inside the printer

If you are able to reach the paper roller on the printer, try cleaning it.

Lastly turn off you printer, try to lift your printer up, put it in an upside down position
then shake it from left to right for about a min. then turn the printer on again
try a test print.

If none of this steps resolved the problem
then the issue is with the printer itself.

Hope this helps.

My dell all in one 948 printer always have low black ink. After I put in a new black ink and after five prints the indicator said low black ink. Please provide a solution.

The ink sensor is malfunctioning, make sure the area it plugs into(contacts and ink port is not dirty fouled or clogged up and that any plastic or strips are removed that are supposed to be removed, a cotton swab dipped in alcohol goes a long way with printer problems. make sure its unplugged and hold the power button down for a few seconds before touching any sensors for safety even unplugged machines can hold a charge in them.

You need to check the glass for any white-out or other smears that don't belong, if the glass is clean then the scan assembly has elements that are burned out which will cause dark streaks.

Dell 948 printer- won't print in black and white

I had this problem. It's actually very easy to fix:

- Click Print -> Properties
- Go to "Advanced" tab
- "More options"
- Deselect "Use color cartridge for all black printing"
- Select "Use black cartridge to print black and white"
- Click "Ok"

You should be able to select the "Print in black and white" option now and stop all the frustration!

Printer 948 false paper jam

Tonight, I fixed my neighbor's Dell 948 printer with false paper jam.

After you lift open the top, look below the shiny bar that the Print Head slides left/right on. You'll see a row of 8 tiny rollers. In between the middle two rollers (rollers #4 and #5 from the left), look for a small plastic tab sticking up between them. Touch this tab with the tip of a ball-point pen to see if it pushes down. If it does, then push the "checkmark" button on the control panel.

That's what I did to fix my neighbor's printer.

Sincerely,
John
