What does error code e22 mean

e22--will not finalize DVD-R disk (due to dirty lens, I think)
*unplug unit and replug after 20 minutes
*restore settings if needed, and reset clock
*insert & run/play a DVD lens cleaner disk
*dub video from the HD to a NEW BLANK DVD
*finalize after dubbing is finished
THIS WORKED ON MY MAGNAVOX MDR 533H/F7

PS: make sure that the new blank DVD disk is from the same pile of disks that you were able to finalize before.

Recorder LG - RH361SE (HDD failed) Can I replace HDD?

The hard disks inside the recorder should be exchangable. If you still have warranty, bring the machine to your point of purchase, or repair shop, as directed by the shop you got it from.

As you are at it, consider asking to change to a bigger size HD, and pay a little for the prize difference?

If out of warranty, try changing the disk. These machines should be easy to open, as long as you do not have the electrical cord plugged in and do not touch capacitors that might hold remaining charge.

However, although the disks are mostly standard IDE disks, there might be a software specific to this brand of recorder on the old hard disk, so pls find out if there is downloadable boot images existing that you could transfer.

You might even have a corrupted boot image... and not a broken disk.

Here is a discussion thread with pros and cons about changing the disk:

Errors burning to 1x to 16x DVD-R

I have had much luck recording on off brand 16X discs as follows:

1) Record a "dummy" program on the hard drive, need only about 15 or 20 seconds.

2) Put a blank disk in drive, and COPY that dummy program to disk. Do not finalize.

3) After a minute or so, window will come up and say "Cannot
complete copy."

4) Now while above window on screen, click HOME MENU, COPY, New program list, Select your movie/program to copy, go ahead and finalize, and START.

5) Think you'll find this is successful, however there might be some brands of blank disks that won't work.

6)Let me know if it works for ya. JGIDUSKO@CFL.RR.COM

Hi, The hard disk on my pioneer 633h-s does not appear. When the HDD button is pushed, it says disc not present. I cannot access it on memory. Does this mean the disc is damaged?

Hi 031641

It sounds like you have a hard disk failure.... I found this info

.....The consensus does seem to be it indicates HDD corruption and your recordings will probably not be salvageable. (Supposedly it was recently discovered that some variant of Unix-Linux is able to pull files off Pioneer drives, but I have not yet seen a detailed report on how to do this- it may turn out to be urban legend.)

If all else fails and you are willing to risk losing the drive contents, you could try removing it, connecting it to a PC running Knoppix, and deleting/replacing the TV Guide-Timer system programming (this gets corrupted fairly easily during power spikes). Go to the "Pioneerfaq" website for details how to do this and assistance obtaining the service disc and remote emulator. You may need help from someone who knows Linux/Unix commands: the instructions are basic and do not include information on how to delete the corrupt software from an existing drive, only how to install it on a fresh drive. I think its worth a shot to reverse-engineer a delete-reinstall: if I came across a unit with this boot-wait problem I would definitely try it. If the Knoppix command line is edited correctly, it should be possible to delete the damaged TVGOS-Timer software from the boot partition and re-install a new copy WITHOUT touching the partition that has your recordings on it. Then you might be able to reinstall it in your 533 and get it to work long enough to copy the contents to DVDs.

Chances are the drive is completely hosed, tho. I have had both earlier Pioneer models, 510 and 520, pass thru my hands with similar symptoms. Those units do not have any Pioneer software on the HDD that would get corrupted: the drives simply tank. Once replaced with new drives, both recorders worked perfectly for their owners and are still going strong a year later. DVD recorders are not full-scale PCs with semi-automated maintenance routines: their operating systems are very crude and all it takes is a couple of bad sectors to appear on the drive for the recorder to totally trash it. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.....

You can see more about Pioneer HDD failures at this forum. Hope it helps you. If all else fails, then its off to Pioneer

File system hard disc corrupted

the better choice is...

buy a new hd and replace it, the original go bad quick.
replacing it resolve all of corrupt problems.

sometimes, you repair it,then when going to save a game, the ps3 freezes.

Dvd recorder wont finalize etc

The DVD drive works harder when trying to record the info faster. As the unit ages, tracking is less precise. DVD-R copies occur at 4-16X real time. Try DVD-RW disks which copy slower (now that the price has dropped substantially), and you may find that your aging drive can still copy programs from the HD to the DVD.
