Your carriage got stuck in service station,is there any noise coming from the right side of printer then there will be broken gear.
Power on your printer,after you got carriage jam error open cartridge access door and wait 5 second when you see that gears trying to move,use your hand to pull your carriage to left side.Don't use much force.If your carriage got free then install your print head and cartridges.If this will happen again then take it to service center they will change the service station or broken gear but the cost goes much high.
There is nothing much to do if you get a Carriage Jam error. We can give a try to solve it ( Usually carriage jam error results in Hardware failure )
Follow the instructions below to resolve Carriage Jam issue.
Turn off the printer.
Open the rear access door ( or duplexer )
Check for any bits of paper stuck, if so, remove them.
Open the front access door where you see the cartridges. Check for any paper pieces, if so, remove them.
Move the carriage manually 5-6 times from left to right.The carriage should move freely. ( Do not apply force )
If the Carriage does not move freely, try to remove the cartridges and close the rear and front access door.
Power on the printer and it will prompt you for missing cartridges.
Install the Cartridges.If it does not prompt you for cartridges missing, you will find Carriage Jam Error on the screen
This indicates the printer is faulty and needs repair

oh This is a simple solution open up the hp solution centre icon or the hp director icon whichever your printer software has on the computer. Then click on settings. point to scan settings and click on scan to setup and on all the items on the left hand side select them and move them to the right hand side and click on the ok button or the update the device button and you will not face this issue anymore. your printer software should be installed so that you dont get this error message anymore
Possibly a power issue? Try booting up with the power supply connected; you can even start up without the battery power connected to the computer, just the ac power supply. It could be a battery issue...hope you find a solution soon.

But, you said the encoder strip came off. I always understood that if the encoder strip came off, the printer was dead. I've never tried to take the encoder strip off and put it back on again to see what happens. The encoder strip is what tells the carriage where it is. Without the encoder strip, the carriage doesn't know where to go.
Did the wireless icon from your machine light up? If no, you need to re-install your wi-fi driver. If you have the cds with you, re-install the driver then switched on your wi-fi. If you dnt have the cds, try checking on the HP site and look for the wi-fi driver.
