You have a stuck relay.
Locate the relay that powers up the heat strips and verify that it is closed when power is disconected.

If it is, replace the relay.

Why does my American Standard heat pump compressor and condenser fan run when I have the thermostat set to emergency heat?

It's possible the "brain" thinks it can still supply some heat. Other wise there is a wiring problem or thermostat switch problem. Installed recently? Never used emergency heat before? What is your emergency heat type, gas or electric? Are you sure they are working. If not the "brain" senses and uses the only source available: heat pump. Thermostat? probably Honeywell? If so call Mfg customer service. Warranty on thermostat or heat pump? If so call customer service. Call your installer.

Emergency heat not working where is the heating elements located

user manual:

if you are using a hard wired thermostat, you have one designed for a heat pump. Heat pumps are minimally effective at outdoor temperatures below 30'f. Emergency heat systems are not generally included with any split system, but would be located in the indoor air handler.

Our outdoor condensing unit (ruud upmc030jaz) runs continuously when outdoor temps in the 30's or 40's. never seems to catch up. I had a tech. check system and he said it was working fine. We're trying to...

Don't know if unit is big enough without doing a manual j. But if house is well insulated and double pane windows it should be. You air handler should have heat strips in it for aux heat. If not then you should have some put in probably 10k. You can use emerg. heat but will run bill up. Need to have Freon checked in unit.

Is a split a/c alc and a heating or heat pump?

a split system can be gas or can be a heatpump. a split system is when the condenser coil compressor and outdoor fan is outside. the other half is in the house close to your air filter .that well be your air handler. eletric heater. or gas burner .and indoor fan motor would be. i hope that helps you.

No heat when outside temp low When outside temp is 38 or above get heat. Is there a heater in the compressor that can fail?

I would start with your outdoor thermostat located in
the unit outside. I`m assuming this is a heat pump.
When the outdoor temthermostat is set to say 40F
anything lower than that and you are not using the
compressor, you are using electric heat thats located
in the air handler unit in the house.

I`m also assuming this is a split system and not a
packaged unit. If you are mechanically inclined and
you can locate the outdoor thermostat lower it below
the outdoor air temp and see if the unit comes on.

Sounds like you might have a problem with your electric heat or emergency heat

What does aux mean on a honeywell Thermostat? the heat doesn't seem to be working but warm air is comming from the vents and the heat pump fan is spinning just not enough to match the temp. it's set too....

The aux switch is for electric heat banks installed in the air handler. Depending on the outside temp. it may not be efficient to run in heat pump mode but in aux. or emergency would run the electric heat in the air handler.

We have 2. LA125HV w/ 1 condensing 1. air handler

I could not find a "fault code" list for the LA125HV but for thier Multi Split Units LG lists code CH7 (C7) as "Indoor Unit is Set in Different Cool/Heat Operation Mode." So maybe your air-handler tihinks it's in Heat mode will the compressor is in Cool mode, or vice-versa....

Hi- Can not tell if my unites are straight cool / heat or a heat pump.

if you look inside the condenser unit outside, see if you see the big reversing valve,if not it is a straight cool, heat, the heat strip ins in the air handler so you would have to take the side panel off and look for the heat stripe,my the way heat pumps also have a aux.heat stripe just in case it does not get cold enough outside, hope this helps you-mike

Ruud heat pump question

Does the air handler take a minute or two to start, this would be normal so that it doesn't blow cool air into the house before the unit is warmed up. If not could be the fan relay is weak and needs replacing. As far as the outside unit it sounds like you need to check the refrigerant. In cooling they are 70/150 psi. This should be checked in cooling mode, once you turn it to heating mode the pressures switch bring heat inside the house instead of out. I hope this helps.
