Question about Roomba Pro Elite Bagless Robotic Vacuum

1 Answer

Roomba Pro Elite

Circle Dance? Not sure what's wrong--it acts like it's bumping into walls. Rolls forward a foot, then backs up, turns, does it again. The bumper is not stuck and we've tried forced air cleaning everything we can get to. Someone mentioned sensors under the roller (two metal discs, but we don't see them). Please help. We need a schematic of this machine or some instructions for taking it apart so we can get to the sensors on the wheels--or whatever needs to be cleaned.

The electronics have failed most likely. Not uncommon. If it is within the warranty period call the company ( good luck with that ) and they will send you a new one. These machines are not designed to be repaired other than brush replacement and filters, dust containers, etc.

I had the same back-up, turn, move forward a couple inches, backup-up, etc. problem. Try cleaning/cutting the hair, etc. out from around the brushes, as well as around the ends of the brushes. Also, try a Q-tip to clean out the four pair of sensors (on my Roomba there are four pairs of little lenses under the bottom of the bumper) that (apparently) can cause the Roomba to think it is going over a cliff so it backs up. I didn't have a can of compressed air, so I turned it over on the grass and went after it with a leaf blower..up close. Lots of dust came out and it has worked fine since.

Goes circles 4210

I had this problem with mine, it was just going in a circle, some people suggested to clean the bump sensor with air, it may work for you, but it didn't for me, I found out that the problem was a servo motor at one of the wheels, bought a refurbished set of wheels, took the Roomba apart and replaced the part, working like a champ.

It probably does think its met an obstacle. It could be the bump sensor switch remains pressed, one of the 4 cliff sensors on the front is dirty, or one of the 3 wheel drop sensors (left right and caster) is alarmed. Clean the sensors and your problem may resolve.

Actually it very well can be bad or dirty sensor that you can clean with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab. If cleaning the sensor doesn't help, then it may be a firmware or electronical problem like faulty resistor or capacitor

If you are lucky then one of the 4 sensors under the bumper has dust lint buildup. Blow out these areas and give your unit a good cleaning. If it still continues to do this then the bumper bar sensor should be replaced

My roomba starts going backwards

I had the same kind of problem with my model 400 today...after starting it and having it go in a circle for 30 seconds or so it would finally run into something and then back up a few inches, turn, then go forward a few inches, then back up a few inches, turn, then go forward a few inches, etc., etc.. I tried cleaning off the four pairs of sensors under the bumper and blowing out various things underneath (by mouth since I didn't have any canned compressed air). It didn't really help. It then occurred to me that I had a leaf blower! I put the Roomba upside down on the grass, put the leaf blower on high, and blew at it from all directions and up close. More dust came out than I thought would. It has been running normally now for the last 45 minutes.
