I have the same problem...only mine was working fine until I restarted it this morning, and out of nowhere it started freezing on the "hp invent" screen and none of the options given on the screen do anything.

I have the same problem - intermittent
Locks at the HP Invent screen
Turning off/on many times eventually allows a boot to windows

I have a 2 month old HP with 8 gigs of RAM. Freezes immediately at the HP invent screen. Can't get into BIOS or anything, just locked up completely.

I opened up the computer and disconnected the Hard Drive, restarted and I can then enter the BIOS by hitting F10 as soon as the HP invent screen pops up.

    Any ideas?!

There are some hidden unnecessary files stored on the laptop causing it perform slowly and sometimes freezing up. These files are temporary Internet files, browser cache, cookies, recycle-bin, and system temporary files and so on. To remove these unnecessary files use system cleaner program such as reginout cleaner.

A fragmented disk slows down the performance of retrieving and saving information in the files by user and installed programs. So, you have to defrag your disk drives through the following method:

1. Click on Start.
2. Go to All Program and Select Accessories.
3. Click on System Tools and move to Disk Defragmenter.
4. Start the process.
5. Done.

The most important component of operating system is registry which contains information about all hardware and software configurations. Installing a new program or uninstalling the existing one may lead to registry fragmentation which results in laptop freezing on constant intervals.

Microsoft Windows has no built-in tools available so use a third party software program for this purpose. Use reliable system cleaner that has registry defragmentation utility to start defragmentation process.

Manage your startup.

Clean system trash.

If you are playing games then upgrading your RAM would be helpful.?

Hope this helps you.

Hey, question for you; Does this happen after the memory test? Or can you not see that screen at all! i think you should be able to see the data happening behind the scenes there if you hit esc ( well it might be tab on an hp) - but if the memory is cycling or if the memory test is lagging then it could be some bad memory -

that aside, list some specs on the machine, like model number, ram type, cpu speed, - try a boot disk, u can make a usb boot disk with ubuntu 8.10 = > google "usb ubuntu boot "

My HP Compaq nx 6110 freezes afta the HP invent screen and doesnt go beyond that, and if i plug the adapter the system boots automatically but not beyond the HP invent screen. Please help.

Press and hold "CTRL," "ALT" and "Delete" at the same time. Wait and see if a prompt window loads. If one does you can select the program causing the crash and close it. This allows you to return to using the laptop.

Push and hold the power button until the system turns off. Typically, you need to hold the power button down for a few moments before the laptop shuts down.

Remove the power cord from the laptop if the power button does not turn the computer off. Occasionally this can occur, in which case you need to find an alternative way of cutting the power.

Flip the laptop over if the power button is not turning the computer off. Find the battery compartment on the bottom of the laptop and remove it from the computer. Momentarily the computer shuts down. Leave the battery out for a few moments.

Insert the battery back into the computer and press the power button. Shortly, the computer restarts and begins to load the operating system.

press F1 at start up to check the bios for power management settings as perhaps there is a conflict to the settings in Windows. Also I would check what is running in startup (msconfig) and leave nothing but essential antivirus and antispyware. I have seen Norton or MacAfee come up and cause this on several HP Laptops until I uninstalled every last bit of it

also ensure the laptop is in a roomy place a overheating could also be the cause

Hp compaq will not boot, sticks at hp invent screen with F10

Take a look at this post that deals with a HP nx6110 laptop with random freeze ups. See if the described symptoms also happen on your laptop. If you did experience random freezeups or slow DVD you're dealing with the same FSB chip problem. All peripherals, USB ports included, are connected on the Front Side Bus. Poor soldering causes intermittent contact which in turn results in hanging, slow, or totally non bootable (stuck at HP logo) laptop. Hope this helps.

My compaq laptop freezes after 30 minutes

It sounds like an overheating problem. When it is booted, does it run ok other than just being slow? Check your cooling fan and make sure it is running and not stopped up. That is a number one symtom of overheating is freezing and rebooting by itself. Have you expierenced that problem also? There is a free program called "Motherboard Monitor 5" that will monitor the temp for you and set off an alarm when it is getting to hot. Check that problem first. Hopes this helps!
