Have you checked BIOS settings to make sure the right harddisk is selected as Boot Drive ?

You could try installing it on another machine to make sure it's still readable.

Did you change any settings or get any error messages the last time you used it ?

When I try to start my Acer 1 Aspire I get a message stating that the appplication failed to initialized properly (0x0000005)

Hi

This type of Access Violation error can have many causes, but it normally happens after Windows has already loaded and the user tries to open or close a corrupted program, whereas your question seems to suggest that it happens before Windows boots.

You do not say which operating system you are using.

If you occsionally get an Error message on a Blue Screen background, then read through the message carefully and it will explain what the likely cause is and waht the likely remedies are.

Youe either have a corruption of your operating system, a hardware failure or a Virus or Spyware infection.

If you can Boot into Safe Mode, you can try and identify the error more precisely there and/or download malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.org) and run a scan to purge any spyware with it.

Get some additional insight to this Error Code here:

Please feel free to post again or add a comment to your original question to give more detail and you will get more precise advice.

I hope this helps.

I have a v-epc-001 and when I turn it on it just shows wireless book and a progress bar with 'loading device drivers' underneath it...it never boots to windows

Few computer problems are more frustrating than a laptop that refuses to boot, as troubleshooting becomes infinitely more difficult when you are unable to get into the operating system. By understanding the common causes of laptop booting problems, you may be able to spare yourself the cost of paying an electronics store by resolving the issue on your own.
Laptop computer
Error Messages
If a laptop is unable to boot, there will usually be an error message giving you some idea of the problem's cause. Read this error message to know where to begin in the troubleshooting process. Some common error messages seen on laptop computers during the booting process include "NTLDR" messages, which deal with the operating system, and messages relating to the hard drive and the power supply.

Identifying a Software Issue
If a laptop has trouble booting and displays error messages generated by Windows, the cause is often a failed driver installation or other change that rendered the computer unstable. This type of issue can often be resolved by starting Windows in safe mode, then using the System Restore utility to roll the computer back to the previous configuration. If an external peripheral was recently added to your laptop, such as an external DVD drive, try booting the laptop with the device disconnected, then reconnecting it once Windows is fully loaded.

Identifying a Hardware Issue
Random booting issues on a laptop--those that seem to come and go with no explanation--are often caused by a problem with the hardware. Other symptoms of a possible hardware issue include a system that does not get past the POST screen (the initial monochrome screen displayed when the unit is turned on), or an error message containing the word SMART (this refers to an internal health monitoring system used by hard drives).

Identifying a Heat Issue
For all electronics, heat can be a killer. Heat-related issues can be caused by using the laptop in an unsafe way (such as by putting the laptop on a surface that blocks the air intake port), or by dust building up inside the cooling system. An unacceptable level of noise emanating from the cooling can generally signify that the cooling system needs to be cleaned in order to prevent a more serious issue. If a laptop has a booting problem that only tends to arise after the machine has been in use for extended periods, heat is likely to be the cause.

Prevention/Solution
Do not neglect your laptop's power supply. Laptop power supplies are often quite fragile, and are susceptible to damage from heat (exacerbated by being trapped under a desk or chair) as well as damage to the shielding surrounding the cable. Problems caused by a faulty power supply are often not instantaneous; it can take time for a power-related issue to become evident. To avoid booting problems that may be caused by a power issue, replace your laptop's power supply at the first sign of physical damage.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you.

I get this black screen message: Widows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please...

Try starting your laptop in safe mode. If it does then run CHKDSK/F to find and attempt to repair the errors on the drive.
Hope that helps

While i was trying to setup vista in my computer its shows me KARNEL_DATA_INPAGE-ERROR HOW CAN I SOLVE

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
Explanation:
This Stop message indicates that the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory. This Stop message is usually caused by a bad block (sector) in a paging file, a virus, a disk controller error, or failing RAM. In rare cases, it is caused when nonpaged pool resources run out. It is also caused by defective hardware.
User Action:
If the I/O status is C0000185 and the paging file is on a SCSI disk, the disk cabling and SCSI termination should be checked for problems. Check your computer for viruses, using any up-to-date, commercial virus scanning software that examines the Master Boot Record of the hard disk. An I/O status code of 0xC000009C or 0xC000016A normally indicates the data cannot be read from the disk due to a bad block (sector). If you can restart the system after the error,Autochk runs automatically and attempts to map out the bad sector. If Autochk does not scan the hard disk for errors, manually launch the disk scanner. Run Chkdsk /f /r on the system partition. Restart the system before the disk scan begins. If you cannot start the system due to the error, use the Recovery Console and run Chkdsk /r . Caution: If your system partition is formatted with the FAT file system, the long file names used by Windows 2000 can be damaged if Scandisk or another MS-DOSbased hard disk tool is used to verify the integrity of your hard disk from an MS-DOS prompt. (An MS-DOS prompt is typically derived from an MS-DOS startup disk or from starting MS-DOS on a multiboot system.) Always use the Windows 2000 version of Chkdsk on Windows 2000 disks. Another common cause of this Stop message is failing RAM. Run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer, especially the memory scanner. For details on these procedures, see the owners manual for your computer. Check that all network adapters in the computer are properly seated. Use an ink eraser or an electrical contact treatment, available at electronics supply stores, to ensure network adapter contacts are clean. Check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device causing the error. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve it. Finally, if all the above steps fail to resolve the error, take the system motherboard to a repair facility for diagnostic testing. A crack, a scratched trace, or a defective component on the motherboard can also cause this error. For more troubleshooting information about this Stop message, refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com/support.

Own HP Pavillion dv9000, DVD (Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A ATA Device) does not seem to ''read a disc'' and no longer appears as a drive when viewing ''computer'' under the control panel. Vista OS. Error...

Recommended resolutions

Here are some things that you can try to resolve this problem.

Update the driver

In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

Error message/cannot burn cd in cd burner

This seems to me to be an AutoPlay issue, where the default action for blank CD-media is to format it, and might be a feature of your burning software. To resolve this, you could try the following:
  1. Open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking AutoPlay.
  2. In the list next to the device or type of disc, click Ask me every time.

Error code 37

Hi there
The Code 37 error may occur when the concerned device is not connected to the system correctly and when its driver is faulty. A code 10 error is common when you add or remove USB devices or video & sound cards to and from your PC. When these errors occur, you may receive the error message given below.
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
To resolve code 37 errors, first ensure that your device is properly connected to your system. For instance, check all the cables of your printer or check that your sound or video adaptor is properly seated in its slot.
Try to remove and reinstall the device, and run the Add New Hardware Wizard from the Control Panel to see if Windows detects and installs it. If this does not resolve the issue, then update the device driver by performing the following steps:
  1. Open Control Panel and select System.
  2. In the System Properties dialog box, select Hardware tab, and then click on the Device Manager tab.
  3. Scroll down the Device Manager window and identify the faulty hardware from the list.
  4. Right-click on the hardware and select Update Driver.
  5. Follow the screen instructions to resolve the error.
If these steps do not resolve your error, then the problem might be with your device. Get it checked by an authorized technician.

Good luck

Can not even use restore disks

from microsoft below ....

Bug check 0x50 usually occurs after the installation of faulty hardware or in the event of failure of installed hardware (usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM).
Another common cause is the installation of a faulty system service.
Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.
Resolving the Problem Resolving a faulty hardware problem: If hardware has been added to the system recently, remove it to see if the error recurs. If existing hardware has failed, remove or replace the faulty component. You should run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.
Resolving a faulty system service problem: Disable the service and confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer of the system service about a possible update. If the error occurs during system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-mode menu that displays the operating system choices. At the resulting Windows Advanced Options menu, choose the Last Known Good Configuration option. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time.
Resolving an antivirus software problem: Disable the program and confirm that this resolves the error. If it does, contact the manufacturer of the program about a possible update.
Resolving a corrupted NTFS volume problem: Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and repair disk errors. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition. If the hard disk is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk.
Finally, check the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error. Disabling memory caching of the BIOS might also resolve it.

Toshiba dvd rom sd r6012 isn't reading the DVDs

Try some factory CD and DVDs and just try to get them to open in Windows (not play in a media player program). If you get errors on every disc you try, it may be your CD/DVD hardware packing in.

If it reads some CDs or DVDs and not others, particularly media discs, you may be having software driver problems, otherwise, it is likely hardware.

Try inserting the disc and spinning it up while resting the laptop on its side, or even upside down. If it reads sideways or upside down, the CD/DVD reader hardware has gone and cannot probably be prepared (this is a symptom of physical controller failure and is ot fixable by normal means).

Good luck...
