It is related to mobiles. IMEI is abbreviation of International Mobile Equipment Identification and this is unique for all mobile devices having 16 Digit Alph-Numeric code. You can get IMEI by dialing *#06# on any mobile. ESN is abbreviation of Electronic Serial Number. IMEI is also written on the packing and a sticker affixed in battery place.
Nokia Lumia phone: - Go to "Settings", select "About", click "More Information". Serial number is the "IMEI" number. - Look on or beside the SIM tray. Other Nokia phones: - Input *#06# on the phone keypad. Some phones will then display the serial number on the screen. - If your phone has a removable battery, switch off the phone and remove the battery. The serial number is printed on the label inside the phone. - Check the original sales package or box. - Reference the proof of purchase/receipt/contract. - Contact your service provider. The serial numbers may follow the letters IMEI, ESN or MEID. Example: (Letters must be ALL Caps): ESN: 12345678912 (11 digits) IMEI: 123456789123456 (15 digits) MEID HEX: 123A456B789C123 (14 or 15 characters)
In USA, Verizon offers Droid which uses CDMA technology. You can call Verizon customer service and tell them to activate the phone on your account. You should be a Verizon customer, should have a data plan and the phone serial number should be clean(not in lost/stolen list and active on another account). You'll have to give ESN number to the Verizon customer service agent while calling them. ESN number is at the back of the phone when you take the battery out.
First, you'll want to obtain the IMEI or ESN (serial number). You can do this by removing the battery and looking at the sticker on the back of the phone. There will be several numbers, but only one labeled the IMEI or ESN.
Then contact the provider/carrier the phone is locked to currently (AT&T, Verizon, etc). Provide them with the IMEI or ESN and they will provide you with not only the code, but also with HOW to put in the code since some phones are more difficult than others.
Now the process is complete, and the phone is now ready to be used with a different company.
