Diswasher doesnt clean and leaves "gunk" on top shelf items

Maytag dishwasher, less than two years old. Doesnt clean very well. Cups, especialy ceramic ones on top shelf have a grimes and gunk caked into them at end of cycle. SOmetimes not all, washer makes a grinding sound when it starts up, seems unrelated to washing problem.

i use a solid pellet type of dishwashing detergent (Electrasol) and have rinsed with vinegar which is only partially helpful, first wash is cleaner but not spotless.

Same problem; very loud grinding sound when the cycle begins and the dishes are filthy when the cycle ends. I end up having to wash the whole load by hand to remove the dried-on residue.
The water is very hard. I've used a dishwasher cleaner in the empty dishwasher; I've used dry detergent with a rinse agent, detergent with vinegar, detergent with rinse agent and vinegar. Nothing works.
The washer is only a few years old and I am really unhappy with the Maytag brand--the one that is supposed to be so "dependable."

I have the same thing...dishes seem to have food actually BAKED on! Cups are filthy. I took out all the screws to get to the filter, which was clogged with old detergent and filthy...I cleaned it, put the special stuff in the door that is supposed to keep glasses clear...nothing works. I saw on the news to run TANG through the washer, which I did, and the dishes got time.

Is this a stainlees steel washer? If it is, you have to use the rinse agent in the rinse agent dispenser

I had the same problem. There is a filter that the water goes through before it gets to the top of the dishwasher. If that filter is broken you will use dirty water with chunks in it instead of filtered without chunks in it to continually rinse your top rack dishes.

The rinse agent is a separate product. I use CascadeCrystal Clear in a 16 ounce bottle. In your machine (if it's anything like mine) there should be what looks like a screw cap next to the soap dispenser. Unscrew that and pour in the product.I was told by the appliance store where I bought my machine that you have to use this in stainless steel washers. Also I would try a liquid type soap. I use Cascade with shine shield. I think from past experience that the pellets aren't very good especially if you have hard water.

I have a Kitchen Aid built in dishwasher. It has always cleaned the dishes beautifully except for the sandy gunk that it occasionally leaves on items, especially glasses and coffee cups. Recently, it...

There is a filter at the bottom of the dishwasher where the dishwasher drains. This filter is probably plugged. You may also have a kink in the drainline. The dishwasher usually drains into either a drainpipe under the sink or into the disposal. If your disposal is full this will also cause the dishwasher to not drain properly.

Ingrained glass on top shelf

Hello. Begin by running the dishwasher after adding two cups of vinegar. Use the hottest and longest cycle u have. This will clean your machine. Then change over to cascade liquid and see if it imakes a difference. Finally, always run the hot water in the sink until it is real hot before you turn on your dishwasher.

Hi shanandpop

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: Your Bosch dishwasher is 6 months old and is starting to leave food on items in the top drawer. It also sometimes leaves a grainy residual in the cups and glasses. You have put through a dishwasher cleaning solution, but find it isn't doing anything to resolve the problem?

You're still under warranty. The best advice is to use it. If it is not fixed the first time out, demand a new one from where you bought it. Sometimes they drag this out till the warranty runs out, then where will we be.
