i loaded firefox i'm not sure i put add-on with non-script.  i could use for a little while before computer froze.  i think problem started last week when i update mcafee secuity.  since then when computer comes on the product set up box comes up and i cannot close it.  i tried logging on computer a few minutes ago to go into px program without internet and it froze immediately.  i work in medical field and this is not my speciality.   i was trying to get some px before christmas.

should i go back to factory settings?  would buying vista help?
    thanks for any help

Also try malwarebytes anti malware
www.malwarebytes.org

one of the best I have seen for getting rid of nasties that's out there at the moment

Also as snowman said take a look at firefox + download the noscript add in, will allow you to stop all scripts on a web page until you allow them to run, so you could allow the main site to run scripts but not any of the external add sites that may be on there :)

If you don't have IE on autoupdate, you may have a bunch of security holes and it sounds like you have adware you didn't ask for.
Two utilities, both free in their basic versions, Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, should root out the malware causing your problem.
As of Dec. 2008, there are warnings from several experts concerning a dangerous 'hole' in IE and they are recommending using some other browser until MicroSoft gets a fix for it.

Where is the video card in dell diminsion 8400?

Well if you open it up and don't see a video card then it's using the built-in video circuit on the motherboard.

Internet explorer task bar missing

Try pressing the left Alt key alone. Does the menu bar appear?
Try right-clicking the area where the menu bar is supposed to be. Try different spots around the upper part of the window, eventually you should see in the context menu an option to turn on the menu bar.

Dell will not connect with internet

Using another PC, download MEMTST86 from memtst86.com follow directions to burn it to a CD. Run overnight in your Dell. If you have two memory modules, try removing one then the other and see if the problem goes away. Sounds like a hardware problem.

Internet explorer won't open

Sounds to me like a possible browser hijack. Do you only have Internet explorer? any chance you have installed the Firefox browser or Google Chrome? if you have a way to open up your internet

1) i would recommend downloading MalwareBytes and do a scan of your system, which you can get it from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Click on the "Download" if you successfully download the application continue with the installation, after is done upgrading select 'perform full scan' and click scan, select any Hard drives that you have (do not select DVD/CD drives)

2) After the scan is done it will tell you if you have any malicious malware running in your system. Select the option to remove/fix the malicious files listed, it might ask you to do a restart to continue with the removal malicious content.

**
If you do not have firefox installed or any other browser besides IE please go to Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DELETE) and please post a reply with all the processes running.
