Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook

1 Answer

T40 starts bootup, beeps five times and stops.

The screen remains black, but the fan stays on. The is on A/C power. Could this be related to an old battery (which it is)? Should I try replacing the battery?

Wait Black Screen? AFTER you changed the fan... hmmm... I think I know what the problem is. Okay solution one; You might of hit a wire or cord in the computer when you changed out the fan. Two: You might have the virus 223, get it fixed and it should be going again! Hoped this helped! :D

Monitor screen stays black even though it's on

Remove the memory from your unit - power it up it should beep if full communication is still happening across your m/board. No beeps you board has died. if it beeps and your using two diffent memory modules just fitt one leave the battery out and power it up = if no display pull power swap out the memory and try again. if display occurrs you have a defective memory module - throw that failed unit away
