Computer doesn't find video files

I have tried this on a Mac as well as a Windows based PC. It see's my camera but doesn't find any video files. Finds and loads and transfers photos, but not videos. I have been running on Ultra fine and only have another hour of video left. I hope someone has a fix.

I have a JVC everio GZ-MG230 and my friend accidentally deleted all of the videos from it when he was trying to delete just one. There was not a lot of time used up for video but I have lab videos on there I really need. I tried using "Recuva" and many other programs to recover the files but none of the videos come up, just the pictures do. I have the camcorder set on video and not pictures so I know that is not the problem. Is it because when I hooked up the camcorder to the computer I said "backup" instead of "playback" ?

This is interesting...had me going hmmmm.... I have listed a few tips and tricks in the past for maually converting you video from you Everio. In the tips allows you to find your videos as well. Try these steps and see if this helps (first make sure you camcorder is in movie mode not picture mode first):

Steps:

1. Connect you usb to you computer and camcorder
2. Camcorder ask do you want to playback, backup, create dvd, direct print.... Choose playback
3. Option pops up on your computer.. Select "Take No Action"
4. Go into My Computer and open the E: or Everio_HDD
5. >>For movies- Select SD-Video - Folder PRG002 or PRG001 are where your movie files is located
Drag and drop .MOD files to your desktop **.MOI files are indexes of the .MOD files and will not convert **

>>For Pictures- Select DCIM - Folder 101JVCSO or 100JVCSO - Drag and Drop to desktop - NO FILE CONVERSION NECESSARY

6. Change the file extension to .MPG

FILE EXTENSION CHANGE IS NOT NECESSARY IN YOUR CASE OR IF YOU DONT WANT TOO!!!

** If you find yourself having issues changing the file extension, open my computer... select tools... go to folder options.... un-check "Hide extension for known file types", check it back when your finished if you have kids.. I do for my computer.***

**You are simply creating copies of your files when you drag and drop you movies and pics***

These step will allow you to view back you movies using Windows Media Player until you get your software.

Hope this helps

Recover 'lost' flip video

I had success with this camcorder recovery software named asoftech data recovery before
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

You need to take out the memory card or hard disk from camcorder, and then connect the memory card or hard disk to computer, you can then use asoftech data recovery software to recover lost videos.

New mac computer, panasonic vdr-d220 camcorder

If you're running OS X and you have iMovie (part of the suite that comes with Leopard) then your mac has a pre-loaded driver.

Just make sure the disc is finalized, then connect it to your mac via the USB cable and select the CONNECT DISC option on the camera. OS X will ask you which program to open it with; choose iMovie. It will open a video capture screen which will allow you to choose which scenes you want to load from the camera. It will take a few minutes to capture the files and save them to a project folder in iMovie; they'll be visible to work with in iMovie from there.

Note: I believe that iMovie converts the .VOB (DVD) files on your camera to .MOV (Quicktime), which can result in a minor loss in quality. But unless you have Final Cut or some other editing software, I don't know any other way to get those videos on your mac.

I have a VDR D220 and I've used it on a couple of projects with iMovie with success. Good luck.

Deleted Files?

First things first: DO NOT take any more photos or videos with your digital camera (memory card) that you want to recover files from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of recovery.
Then here are some software programs that may help you out.
For Windows --> Data Recovery Tool
For Mac --> Mac Data Recovery
Here are the steps:
1. Connect your camera (memory card) PC or Mac which has installed the recovery program.
2. Scan for the lost files (photos, videos etc).
3. Recover them.

Deleted video HELP!!!

You get some chance. Deleting files(such as videos or photos) from camcorder is just like clearing the recycle bin or Trash on your comptuter. The data itself isn't deleted, just the area containing the deleted data is also now marked as free space so it is available for any new data to be written there instead. The REAL data is still there. As a result a simple delete won't make your videos erased permanently.

Then you need opt for a third party data recovery software.

If you are running Windows, try this Windows recovery software (recover photos, VIDEOS and music files)
For Apple Mac OS X, try this Mac data recovery software.

Install the program on your computer (choose the right version based on the operation system you are running), then connect your camcorder (memory card or HDD) to the computer and start to recover your deleted videos. I am sure you can operate the recovery on your own.

Lost all video files from harddrive

Hi, John. First things first - do not take more photos and do not save anything back to the camera memory card. Then connect it to your PC. Pick a digital camera recovery (recover photos, video, music files) to make a free scan and recover the deleted photos. Regards
