Question about NetGear DG834G Router
The router is a netgear dg834g wireless and i recently bought it off ebay. all i got was the router and the adapter with no other cables and no disk to install im not brilliant with computers and very confused.
You need a network cable (cat5e) to connect the cable modem to the wan or Internet port on the router. Then another network cable to connect the router port(1-4) to the computer's network (NIC) port. If you are going wireless, you do not need to connect the second cable.
You do not need a disk. just power down the cable modem, router and computer.
Hook it all up, then power up the cable modem first, wait 30 seconds, then power up the router, wait 30 seconds, then power up the computer. You shold be able to get online.
Unless: you are using DSL
and unless the original owner had an encryption key on the router.
