Question about VinoTemp (VT60GNV) Wine Cooler

Vinotemp not cooling

Help!!!!!  Need to have cold wine for Christmas.
Our vinotemp keep "clicking" on like the cooler is going to come on, but the temperature stays at or above 70 degrees even though we have it set to 50.  Any advice?  Should I call someone out to replace a part, can I fix it myself or would it be just as expensive to but a new one?
Thanks

I have the EXACT same problem.  What should I do?

  • lchingon Mar 04, 2009

I have the same problem, display always stays at 76 deg. I traced the schematic and Fan on, display works, fuse ok in interconnect board and the compressor has the 120 volts required. However, it appears that the compressor kicks on, draws the current down to 116 Volts and then shuts off. Looks like the compressor is bad. Replacing it is not possible without someone who can install freon 134A back into the system. I am taking mine to a repair place and of course have to pay the $35.00 fee for them to inspect it again and give me a quote on what it will cost to replace the compressor. I looked for the compressor unit online and can't find that specific LG model, go figure. Will let you know sometime next week what it runs to get them fixed.

You can fix this for $5. You can confirm the problem by taking the back off and see of the red and green led on the circuit board are flashing. They will be steady if the board is ok. The fan is usually just rocking too like it is trying to start. The part is a capacitor and is $5, but you will need to be able to remove and solder this part on the circuit board. If you need the part, just let me know.

You may need to change the cooling system on the unit if the unit is free of dust and still does not cool.

the wine cooler has to be at least 3" away from the wall, do not block the air flow to the condenser. or check power plug to outlet is it secure.

I had this issue and it had all to do with ventilation. If the fridge is in too tight of a space without any type of air space this will be the result. I was able to cut into the cabinet behind the fridge and put a 18" x 18" grate that allowed air to move. Problem solved!

My vinotemp vt60 starts cooling then stops

I sounds to me like the compressor is overheating. There is an overload on the compressor itself. Follow the wires where they go into the compressor. There will be a black wire going from the power cord to the overload. These can be purchased at appliance parts stores. Make sure there is no dirt build up on condenser coils or a kink in the tubing.

Vinotemp wine cooler just stop working.

Ok check the power supply input. Assume you have do e that and all ok. More than likely it could be a thermostat or compressor gas leakage. Has the compressor been running more than usual before it gave up working. Check for rust on the internal coils as sometimes they fail. Depending on what you paid for the wine cooler it may be cheaper to simply replace it. Can highly recommend Delongi 145
litre bar fridge, after replacing several cheaper brands and it is very reliable and cools really well though they are not at the cheap end of the market. You get what you pay for with appliances. Best of luck resolving the problem but if the wine cooler no longer is getting cold but the compressor continues to run, you can bet that it's out if gas from a leak in the internal pipe work and generally not worth attempting to either locate and or repair.

Our VT-12TED 12 bottle wine ref. quit working. We have had it for a little over a year.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.

Sounds like the cold control has stuck . Unplug the two wires from the cold control and plug them together. Turn one wire over and plug it into the other. away from the cold control.
The cold control is the knob in the ref that turns it on and off and has numbers on it. (Thermostat)
If it runs then that cold control (Thernostat) is the problem.
If that doesn't work DO THIS:
The relay on the compressor may need replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
also try hooking the two wires together on the cold control to route around the cold control.

Vinotemp 2 zone wine cooler flashes "Lo" on numeric display for lower compartment - will not hold temperature requested. Temp in upper compartment will not go below 67 even though it is set for 51. Room...

Not sure, but did you clean the filter in the back? Ours has that, and the temp starts creeping up every few weeks until I clean it. But we've never been able to get it below 58 or so, and in the last year, not below 60. I think that's just the nature of this type of cooling. Our house is also at 80. But, can keep it at 60 with the above cleaning.

Vinotemp VT-16TEDS has light on but doesn't cool

First check the grating over the fan in the back. If it is covered with dust, there won't be enough air flow and the unit won't cool. Clean the dust off and see if it cools back down. It may take a long time to cool down if it is full of wine, so I recommend taking the wine out to test if it works.

Vinotemp VT-60 Condenser won't shut off, unit running way too cold

It might be a sensor or control board problem. Any appliance repair place should be able to help you out with this. Or you can try contacting the manufacturer directly for help or if you need to purchase replacement parts. Otherwise, my cheapest suggestion would be to hook the cooler up to a timer, so you can turn the unit on and off maybe every 20 minutes or so. That should help keep it from causing more harm and then you can monitor the temperature with a thermometer. Hope that helps!
