Have a poulan 17.5 hp briggs & stratton riding mower, runs pretty good wide open and mowing, but when you cut the blades off and idle down, it chokes off and has to cool down to start again.

most likey you have a short . how do you ingage your blades by button or lever. if the button type look for a shorted wire . look for a bad wire some times mice get in to it and chew wires .
