Printing & copying problem with Lexmark X6100 All-In-One

I have an X6100 Lexmark All-in-one. Sometimes when I am printing or copying I am getting a message on my monitor that says Cartridge Stall. I have checked & the ink cartridges are installed correctly & there are no objects blocking them??? I am also getting Hardware Error 0502.

SOURCE: my lexmark x6150 says hardware error 0502

Hardware Error 0502 on LCD Display

Cause
The encoder strip may have gone out of range of the sensor, or it might be dirty.
Resolution
You need to check the encoder strip on the printer. This is a clear strip running the length of the printer, above or behind the cartridge carrier.
Check the encoder strip

    1. Switch off the printer using the power button.
    2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.
    3. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds.
    4. Slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer by taking the top part of the belt and moving it gently to the right.
    5. Take out both cartridges.
    6. Place an index finger on the encoder strip on either side of the cartridge carrier.

      pattlnk_1212009_1453-encoderstrip.gif

    7. On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Slightly push the encoder strip down and then back up to get it into the slot.
    8. Lightly press the strip first to the rear and then forward, if necessary.
    9. Clean the encoder strip with a dry tissue. Also clean the contacts of the printer.

Click here for an enlarged view. The contacts on the back of the cartridge carrier are the ones you need to clean. IMPORTANT: Use a dry tissue.

    10. Reconnect the power cable and switch the printer on again.
    11. Perform the hardware test, first without the cartridges and then with both cartridges. Click on the applicable article link below.

How to Perform the Hardware Test on the Lexmark X6150/X6170

    12. Make a standalone copy.
    13. If the copy is satisfactory, repeat the test once to confirm that the error is gone.

Thank you

SOURCE: Lexmark X6170 printer shows hardware error 0502 when printing

On the multi function machine there seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a kleenex and the problem seems to go away. Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.
You may have to do this from time to time if the error keep reoccurring.

SOURCE: Printer LCD reads (hardware error: 0502). PC

You may need to try the dell support folks, a link is attached.
If you are sure you removed all the packing from the printer, the carrier can move freely back and forth, that you installed the software and then plugged the printer into your PC, try this link.

Printer is not printing - i have started, restarted diagnosis tests, changed the ink, uninstall and installed program. I have a Lexmark X2600. It says that it's ready; but still doesn't print? what else...

Check the USB cable to make sure it is connected, then restart your computer. Sometimes the computer registers it on a different USB port. When you go to print look at your printer options, is there a Lexmark and a Lexmark (copy 1)? Try printing from Lexmark (copy 1) if it is showing. If there is still a problem, try putting the print on another computer, to see if the printer is malfunctioning. If that is the case, you'll need to get another printer.

How do I get the printer to print

Click on the printer icon at the bottom right of the screen. It should bring you to the print queue.

Make sure that the print queue has been released. Sometimes the queue will be in a "Hold" status.

You can also release each print job by clicking on the job and directing the queue to send the job to the printer.

Not printing...printer says remove or change ribbon

First you want to clean both the cartridges and the cartridge seats inside of the printer with warm water and a soft cloth (I use old t-shirts). After you've done that place the cartridges back into the printer and clean the printheads. You can do this by following the steps on page 83 of your user manual:

1) Load the paper
2) Press "Copy"
3) Press Options until Maintenance appears on the display.
4) Press the right arrow until Clean Cartridges appears on the
display.
5) Press Select. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the
nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.
6) Print your document again to verify that your print quality has
improved.

You can also find information on cleaning the cartridges on pages 83 and 84 of your manual. If you don't have one available, you can download one at:

http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/x6100/eng/ug.pdf

I hope this helps!
