Can i installe wifi to my inspiron 530

You sure can, you have two options. You can open the case and install a wireless pci adapter into one of the pci slots. Or you can install a wireless usb adapter into one of the usb ports. Just depends on if you want to go inside the computer to install the pci one or not have to deal with that and install the usb one. One advantage of the one that goes into the pci slot is you don't have to worry about someone taking it out or walking away with it. But if that's not a concern the usb one will do great.

Below are links to both kinds that I use all the time for repairs and upgrades. The usb one is really powerful and has a real good signal range to be so small.

Dell optiplex GX620 desktop has an ethernet port on it, that is not an adapter, I cannot connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a driver for a wireless ethernet adapter, but that has not...

Okay,..........

1) You can download a wireless Ethernet adapter driver all day, but if you Do Not have a wireless adapter card installed in your computer, the drivers do you no good.

Or if you do not have a wireless USB adapter plugged into a USB port.

Example of a wireless adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4695358&CatId=2692

Example of a wireless USB device,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6367137&CatId=2692

Example of an Ethernet adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=686143&CatId=200

If you are just going to hardwire the computer, just buy an Ethernet adapter card, (PCI version), and install it in your computer, (On the motherboard), in any available white PCI slot.

IF it is the Mini Tower model.

The Desktop, Small Form Factor (SFF), and Ultra Small Form Factor (SFF) computers, are too small in width for a regular size Ethernet adapter card.

They need a Low-Profile Ethernet adapter card,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833114034

This is for a Dell Optiplex GX620 Mini-Tower computer,

Scroll the page down until you come to the bold blue heading - System Board Components
This is an illustration of a Top view of the Mini-Tower's motherboard.

16 and 17 point to two PCI slots.
This is where an Ethernet adapter card that is the PCI version, will plug into.

PCI slots are White in color.
An example of a basic PCI slot, ( 3 are shown),

If you do decide to go wireless;

1) Wireless networking operates at half of the speed of wired networking.

A computer that is wired directly to an Ethernet adapter card, is twice as fast on the internet, as a computer that is connected wireless.

2) Make sure your Router is capable of wireless.
Make sure the wireless router has a built-in Modem, or that you have a separate Modem.

[ For DSL.
Phone line connects to Filter. Filter has a place for a telephone cable, and an Ethernet cable.
Ethernet cable connects to Filter, and other end connects to Modem.
Ethernet cable goes from Modem to Wireless router that does not have a built-in Modem.

OR,
Phone line connects to Filter. Ethernet cable from Filter goes directly to wireless router, that has a built-in Modem.

Computer has to have a USB wireless device, or a wireless adapter card, installed.

For additional questions, or to clarify anything I have stated, please post in a Comment.

How to install an wirless adapter to mi desktop

Install a wireless network adapterIn areas that are served by a wireless network, you can connect to a computer network without using a cable, and surf the Internet or connect with other computers. To connect to a wireless network, your computer needs a wireless network adapter.
Many new computers-especially laptops-come with wireless adapters. Before using your computer, check to see if it already has a wireless network adapter.
If your computer doesn't have a wireless network adapter, you can install one.
Install a wireless USB network adapter. Most people prefer this type of adapter for any type of computer, because it's easy to install.
Install a wireless CardBus or CF network adapter. For portable computers, this type of adapter (also called a PCMCIA or PC Card) is easier to travel with than a USB adapter, because it is often smaller and fits securely in the PC Card slot on the side of the computer.
Install a wireless internal network adapter. If you have a desktop computer, you may prefer an internal adapter so that you can use the USB port to connect another accessory.
The type of adapter you install depends on your computer and your level of expertise.
How to determine if you already have a wireless network adapterMany portable computers manufactured after 2000 have wireless networking built in. However, because the antenna is hidden inside the computer, it's not easy to see.
To see which network adapters are currently installed in your computer
1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

Click Network and Internet Connections.
69010-click-network-and-internet-connections.gif 3.
Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Network Connections.
69010-click-network-connections.gif 4.
Microsoft Windows XP displays your network adapters. Wireless network adapters are labeled Wireless Network Connection. If an adapter displays a red X, it is disconnected. If the Network Connections window is blank, your computer doesn't yet have a wired or wireless network adapter.

Im trying to intall a d'link wireless network adapter

Blink,

In order to help you we need to know, what have you tried and what problem you are having.

You should have received a CD in the box your adapter came in. Run the CD and install the drivers and utilities. At sometime during the installation it should ask you to insert the adapter. Do so and then hit enter. It will finish installing the software then depending on what Operating system you have it may or may not ask you to restart. If it does the reboot the computer.

Congratulations you have no installed the Dlink adapter

Hope this helps
Dave

I dont know how to connect wireless internet from one computer to another

You will need a wireless adapter for the other computer. You can get an external wireless USB adapter to connect to your wireless network. Simply plug it in and install the software. There will be a tutorial on the procedure which should include how to set encryption to keep nearby wireless networks from spying on you.

If you do not have an unused USB port, you can connect a USB hub to add additional ports or install an internal adapter instead. If your computer has an available slot, purchase a wireless internal network adapter, and then open the packaging and read the instructions. Insert the CD that comes with the adapter in your computer, and follow the manufacturer's instructions to install the necessary software.

Possibly you have installed the WLAN monitor also that is why it is creating the error...try these settings... Reboot your computer in SafeModeUninstall the software for the Adapter from start >> All programs/Remove the Drivers from Device Manager...Turn your computer Off and connect the adapter in a different PCI Slot...Reboot your computer in Normal Mode...
>> Insert the Setup CD in the cd drive>> Click on Exit when the
Linksys welcome screen appears>>Click on start. Unplug & replug adapter ...>> There should be a "" Found New Hardware Wizard ""
that pops up on your screen>> Click on “Install software
automatically “, and then click on next. Once the installation is
complete>> Right click on the wireless network connection icon in the
system tray besides the clock >>Click on view wireless networks and
then connect to your network name...
