Question about Samsung TX-R3080WH 30" TV
I have a 2 year old Samsung DLP HLR5067WAX/XAA .. Lately the TV turns off as soon as its turned on and a picture appears. I have to turn it on over and over 6 to 10 times before it will finally stay on. Once it is on, after this ordeal it plays perfectly. Bright, excellent colors and very clear. It will play for hours with no problem. Just have to get it going. What could this problem be caused from? Bulb? Thanks for any help !! Tony
It could be the bulb on the way out, they don't like to turn on if the inverter does not get a voltage use from the bulb, while trying to turn on the tv look at the vents for the bulb if you see it flicker on and of while trying to turn on the tv when it would be the bulb. when the tv is on and work hold a peace of paper over the vent not to cover it but to look at the bulb light if you see a flicker or bright and dim and repeats doing this then the bulb is warn out. if you hear clicking or scratching sounds this could be the inverter board on it way out.

This is a possible fault in the power supply, and can be a problem with some decoupler caps on some of the boards. The vertical bars and unstability are usually attributed to having high frequency noise and or clocking pulses crosstalking on to the power distribution lines that run through the boards. This can be switching power supply noise, or cross-talk from clocking pulses.
Another thing that can cause your described fault is unstable clocking between the devices that are reading and writing to the data busses. There are a number of data busses running through the set for the boards to be able to communicate with each other.
The tech will use the process of board swapping to service the set, and then do the adjustments as necessary to make sure the new boards match up.
Yes... DLP sets are fairly expensive to service!
This is my personal opinion. If the set is out of warranty, I would change for a Plasma or LCD set. If you compare the performance of these to ther DLP, the difference is very big. From what I am seeing from a service point of view, the DLP's are lower in reliability.

If it is just no color but you still have a picture it should be your digital board. This is the board that mounts behind the light engine and should be encased in a shilver colored metal sheild

I have a model close to yours & mine did the same thing. Its an easy fix the problem is its over heating. Unplug the tv take all the panels off the back of the tv and you will see lots of computer boards but look for one that has heat sinks and & small fan attached to it. Clean all the dust out in that area at the minimum but best to blow out all the dust on everything.
Make sure you are discharged cause if you spark any computer board it will be toast.
