Question about Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 Notebook
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215 S4747 that's about 1-2 years old. It's running Vista Home Premium (which I've learned to hate), but anyways, the computer works great whenever I leave it sitting in a particular spot, however, as soon as I move it around it gives me the blue screen of death. I work for a computer repair company, and the tech here who's also a good friend of mine worked on it for over a week and wasn't able to figure out what was causing the problem. He determined it's not the hard drive, but we couldn't nail down what the problem was. I'm completely clueless and broke lol! So anyone have any suggestions? thanks guys!!!
If the problem is caused by moving it, it's probably a mechanical issue: loose cables, memory, broken main board. Check that the memory modules are firmly seated. Also make sure the processor is firmly in its socket and that the screws holding down the fan/heat spreader assembly are snug. Be sure the cable to the hard drive is firmly seated (if this model has one) or that the drive is firmly pushed into its connector.
You can also try running the machine with the top cover off and use a wooden stick (I get extra chopsticks when I get Chinese food, they work great!) to poke around and see if any particular spot causes the trouble to occur. If the system board seems to be the culprit, you might be able to spot some flaky connections, but most likely you'll need to replace it.
