Can I put a new burner receptacle on a very old range?

As long as the new element has the same wattage rating and you performed the receptacle installation correctly, there is no reason why this cannot work. Using the wrong wattage rating element can have impact on the control regulator knob for the element.

I dropped a jar on the ceramic cooktop now the hot surface light will not go off

Each element contains a sensor that activates an attached switch to the hot indicator light. The shock of the dropping jar may have damaged the switch. The associated element will have to be replaced.

Whirlpool electric solid element range model RS677PXV. The oven does not seem to heat over 250 degrees. What is the possible fix?

1. Pull the oven temperatre control knob straight off. 2. Loosen the locking screw. (note the position of the notches) 3. To raise the tempature, move the tooth a notch closer to HI. Each notch equals about 10F (5C). (Tighten the locking screw and replace the control knob.
If this doesnt increase the temperature of your oven you may need to look replacing the heating element.
Hope this helps.

I have a very old Tappan electric cooktop 13-3087-10 with solid burners. One burner has a round button in the middle that has become rusted "pushed in". What is the purpose of the button?

This is the temperature sensor. This one burner has a knob with different numbers on it because its heat is controled by a thermostat and not just by varying the current, as are the other burnser.

Broiler element broke and was burning as if it was being welded

Probably none. The sparking going on after you turned it off was probably the ground side of the element. Replace the element then re apply power and see if you have any trouble then.

Ge Spectra Electric Range Cooktop

I'd say its not a normal event, and that the element is about to burn out. I just replaced mine and on the old element there was a nice burn mark where once the element was solid.
