Question about Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 Notebook

1 Answer

My Toshiba A215-S4747 Crashes every time I move it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747. It's about a year and a half old, and when I sit the computer and use it in a particular place, it works great, but when ever I move it, it gives me the blue screen of death. I work for a computer repair company and the tech here wasn't able to figure out what the problem was. He determined it wasn't the hardware, and it has no viral/malware/spyware or any other type of infection, so I'm completely clueless as to what might be causing the problem. Any suggestions. Thanks guys!

This sounds like the Toshiba Blacvk Screen of Death issue with early A215 models. Re-boot and hold down the F2 key to bring up the BIOS screen. If your BIOS version is less than 1.9, you must update the BIOS.Go to the Toshiba support site and search by model. If your BIOS is ver. 1.9 or later, then go to the power opetion settings and set BOTH the minimum and Maximum power to 100% for BOTH battery and AC. That will fix this about 90% of the time.

Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 DVD/CD crash?

Normally when this happens, what one should look out for is the possibility of it happening again. Like desktops peripherals such as disc drives would have connections internally. If you can have them checked out if there were loose connections. It could also be faulty internals that will break down soon such as ICs in the drive.

Toshiba Satellite A215 S4747

If the problem is caused by moving it, it's probably a mechanical issue: loose cables, memory, broken main board. Check that the memory modules are firmly seated. Also make sure the processor is firmly in its socket and that the screws holding down the fan/heat spreader assembly are snug. Be sure the cable to the hard drive is firmly seated (if this model has one) or that the drive is firmly pushed into its connector.

You can also try running the machine with the top cover off and use a wooden stick (I get extra chopsticks when I get Chinese food, they work great!) to poke around and see if any particular spot causes the trouble to occur. If the system board seems to be the culprit, you might be able to spot some flaky connections, but most likely you'll need to replace it.
