I take it is the HP Pavilion
try to charge the laptop for a couple of hours without switching it on, it might be the battery is completely drained.
the light will change to orange to let you know it is charging, when fully charged it should change to blue and stay blue until you remove charger. you should try to use the your laptop with the charger adapter connected at all times when it easy to do so. I do hope this helps.

Yes, but it involves board level component replacement....

An example of what I believe the problem may be, and using the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's;

Wear an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.

Or replace motherboard at a $100 on up.
(NOT including labor. Just price of motherboard)

Or it may be something as simple as the laptop is dirty inside, plus the Thermal Paste on the Processor has dried up; and Thermal Pad on graphics chipset has dried up. (Cannot be reused anyway)

Hi,
Try this step...

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
Note : Please see that there are no external devices or cables connected to the Notebook.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and do NOT connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

Still the problem is not solved means it will be a hardware issue, you want to contact HP Customer Care.

HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop computer will not stay powered on and boot up. The Power on and RAM light is lit but the HDD indicator blinks twice and shuts off after 45 seconds. Then the laptop resets and...

Restart the notebook, press F10 and check if you see the BIOS screen or not.
If you see the BIOS screen and if the notebook does not restart in BIOS then this could not be a hardware issue.
But if you do not see the BIOS screen, then perform the steps below :
1. Disconnect the ac adapter and remove the battery from the notebook.
2. press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
3. replace the battery and connect the ac adapter
4. turn On the notebook and check
If the issue persists then remove and replace the memory modules of the notebook and check it.
If the issue still persists then it could be a hardware issue and your notebook needs to be serviced.

Dv9000 will not come on but the leds light up. it attempts to kick on but stops after about 4 seconds

Turn off the Notebook remve all the peripherials, Remove battery and disconnect AC Adapter and then press and hold down power button for thirty seconds.
After 30 Seconds connect Battery and Power supply as soon as you tun on the Notebook keep on hitting F10 Notebook will show BIOS then F9 Notebook will show Load Set-up Default than Hit yes and Hit F10 again it will show save Exit and chnages now that show Fix the Problem
If that don't fix the problem than remove the Battery and try to turn on the Notebook using A/C Adapter if that don't resolve the issue try another AC Adapter if still the problem persists than this Hardware Issue .

Hi,
Verify the AC power adapter displays a solid green or blue light. Older Latitude™ C Series laptop computer AC adapters may not have a light.
Run the diagnostics on the system as follows , connect both the battery and the Ac adapter before running the diagnostics

  1. Ensure the system is powered off.
  2. Remove all external peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the <Fn> key on the keyboard.
  4. Continue to hold the <Fn> key while pressing the power button.
  5. Release both buttons.
  6. Note which lock LEDs are lit (lock LEDS are next to the power button)
And proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below
