I am trying to download from the Nikon Coolpix L4 camera to my PC which is running on Windows Vista. I have downloaded the PictureProject software but the PC is not seeing the camera.

Did the camera come with a CD or DVD which had software on it? DId it also have drivers, such that when you plug the camera into a USB or other type of port, the PC will recognize the camera?

Frequently, the problem is that the camera is not "seen" by the computer, due to the drivers having not been installed.

Without those drivers. - software which enables the communication between the two devices - you won't be able to transfer the photos from the camera to the PC. And often, the drivers are specific to the version of Windows you are using.

So, if you use Windows Vista Home Premium, but have installed drivers for Windows XP Pro, there may be a miscommunication from that simple error.

Go back and read the installation guide, and make sure that you have not skipped a step, inadvertantly.

Device not ready

CNET's review states that this camera connects to USB, but no mention is made of it being compatible with USB2. Theoretically it should be compatible since USB2 ports are supposed to be backwards compatible with USB 1.1. Yet I have other USB 1.1 devices which will cause "device not ready" error messages when I try to connect them to a USB2 port. Interestingly, the CNET article doesn't list Windows XP as a compatible OS. Another person posted that he received the same error message when trying to connect his camera to his 64-bit XP computer.

In any event, Largan's web site doesn't make any mention of them producing complete cameras -- only camera components. Perhaps their foray into the digital camera market was less than successful.

So, while this isn't truly a solution post, perhaps it may point you in the right direction as to possible causes of the device not ready error message.

I took some pictures and I have the camera hooked up to the computor and the disk installed now I am trying to down load the photos

Boot up the computer with camera not connected.
Connect USB cable to camera and computer if running WinXP, and turn on camera. The rest should be easy, the only setback is if you did not install the photo editing software that usually comes with the camera. If not, you might be able to use Windows software, but a few free photo editing software packages are online. Use Google to find them, the best being Google's Picasa. Good Luck!

the camera need to be on for the PC to detected the memory card.
you also going to need the Arcsoft PhotoImpression software. However, the software is going to cost you $40. if you lost the CD that came with the camera.

Cannot open some photos in microsoft photo editor

Your computer will have to have enough RAM, speed, and CPU power to open the large format pictures. We are using computers with at least 4 gb of RAM with dual core processors for the large format pictures.

A solution you can use would be to go in to the set-up of your camera and cut down the resolution of the piictures. If you do this, then there would be no point in the cost of having the level of camera that you are using. The pictures will then look like and have the quality of a lower end camera.

Picture Error

Hi, It is possible that the memory of your camera got corrupted. You can try and format the memory and see if it will clear any errors and make the memory (card) available for use of the camera. Should you want to try and recover any images stored in the memory card, it has to be a removable one that you can plug in to a card reader attached to a PC. Run data recovery software to hopefully recover whatever you can from the memory. You can also format the memory with your PC and use a disk checking utility to check for any other errors. Thereafter, if things are ok, it will be ready for use of the camera. Hope this be of some use to you. Post back how things went or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Error code messages in the status panel of the Fun! Digital 320 camera.

The following is a listing of the error codes you might see on the status panel of the PhotoMAX Fun! Digital 320 camera: 1.FL - Photo memory is full. You cannot take more photos. Download and then erase the photos in your camera. 2.FE - Flash memory error. A camera hardware error occurred. This can happen when the power is shut off before a photo is completely stored in the camera. Do not shut off the power until the green light comes back on steady after you take a photo. 3.bE - Hardware problem. Turn the power switch on and off and see if the error message disappears. If the error message persists, the camera may need to be replaced. 4.Lo - Battery low. Replace the camera battery as soon as possible. If you continue to use the camera, picture quality will be poor. 5.LL - Low light condition. The camera does not have enough light to take a good photo. Improve the subject lighting if possible. Example: When taking indoor photos, add additional room lighting.
