A lighting storm knocked out the power to my office where the pc is, It tripped the breaker, and I turn it all back on, no problems, then I checked my pc and the power turns on the tower, however, no monitor picture, I removed the cable re plugged it, no picture. The pc when started does not sound the same as it did with all it's other boot ups. I have never changed out a power pack, could it be the power pack stunk in a certain mode?? I can power on and then off with the button, but it never boots up. What can I do??? I have a HP.

What is the color of light on the monitor or is it not turned ON at all? - Check the cable connecting the monitor to the CPU...unplug it from the CPU and replug it - try a different monitor if you have one please revert back with any other observations

After a storm the other night my Proview PL866s amber light is blinking - however when I press the amber button (which usually turns green and then it works) nothing is happening except blank screen and...

If this happened after a storm, the monitor may have been subjected to a power surge, which unfortunately might have killed it.

If you have another monitor (or a friend who has one) try plugging that other monitor into your computer. If the second monitor works, yours will need to be replaced as the input was probably destroyed by the power surge.

If the second monitor also doesn't work, there may be a problem with your computer, most likely with the power supply (this is the part most often damaged by a power surge). You may want to have it examined by a professional computer repair person at that point.

Hope this is helpful!

Nothing on the monitor, the computer powers up and e machine f2 comes up on the screen then goes blank

hello bradprice258

I am assuming you have an LCD monitor

when the computer turns on look carefully at the front face of you computer case, there are two small LED lights. one is power and one is hard disk activity.

look at the one for hard disk activity. watch it for a few mintues, if it is activly blinking and then turns off or becomes a random blink then it means the possibility is a faulty monitor. LCD monitors do that once they age or get hit by power surges or black outs.

if both lights in front of the case go out as you loose display then the problem is with Po itself. could be bad power supply of main board.

hope this has been of help.
please do leave comment if this has helped.

Hi Tomccaw,
In this case your monitor is working fine. Your system is going to power saving mode. To resolve that remove your RAM and insert it. It will fix your issue.

Blinking lights when PC is s.down

Not sure what happened as I had a whole message typed and lost it. Here I go again. I hope it doesn't post twice.

We have an Acer AL1715 monitor which started having this problem after a power surge. It was the only piece of equipment affected by the surge. I searched for an answer when it happened but got nowhere. I contacted Acer about this and they told me I would have to bring it to a tech to be looked at. Decided on a whim today to try Googling again and found this website and Q&As.

Though we didn't know what "Brunin" was nor saw an "F" change color, we did get into the Menu on the monitor and used the right and left arrows to see what was there. We decided to use "Reset" by highlighting it and pressing the "Menu" button for "Enter".

This appears to have solved the problem for us. The monitor is no longer toggling colored screens when idle nor when the computer is off.

Thank you for solving our problem. It has been very annoying for the user and anyone sitting across from her monitor during a meeting.

SDM-P234/B Won't turn on

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot the monitor. NOTE: Since each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the display function after completing each step. 1. Download and install the latest video drivers for the video card. 2. Disconnect the computer and monitor from any surge protector or power strip and plug it directly into a known working wall outlet. NOTE: If the display returns after completing this step, the problem is isolated to the surge protector or power strip. 3. Ensure the monitor cables are connected correctly. 4. Perform a monitor self-test. 5. Adjust the monitor brightness and contrast levels. NOTE: Refer to the monitor manual or user guide for specific instructions on how to adjust the monitor brightness and contrast levels. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site. 6. If possible, connect and use the monitor with a different computer. NOTE: If the monitor functions properly, then the problem is isolated to the computer to which the monitor was originally connected. 7. Ensure that the keyboard and mouse are connected correctly. 8. Troubleshoot the computer display configurations in Safe Mode. 9. Remove any hardware that has been added to the computer. This includes any added memory, internal or external drives, and any type of adapter card (network, sound, video, USB, etc.) . Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
