Turn your command dial to P or to auto. Press the menu button. The screen should light up with the main menu. If it does not, find the two buttons on your camera that has small green dots beside them. Press both of these buttons together at the same time until the LCD screen flashes on the top of the camera. Now try to access the menu again. If that does not help, call 1-800-nikonux for their 24/7/365 tech help

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

My Nikon D70 lcd screen doesn't display correctly the colors on the screen show in bright glowing colors, but the pictures print out great and display well on my computer screen. Is there a setting that...

You are looking at two different monitors with different settings. In most cases you will need to do some editing yourself on your computer because of the difference. Or the brightness can be done in a lab.

Pictures won't show on screen

I have checked to see if I can simulate your problem on my D70.
There are no settings on the Set-up menu to turn off the display.
The display should show for a minimum of 6 seconds after a phot is taken.
You can reduce the screen brightness but that will not turn it completely black.
I presume you have eliminated all other possibilities by changing batteries, card, lens etc..
If so, it would suggest an LCD screen failure which would necessitate a repair by a Nikon agent.

D80 with nikkor 18-200, no picture

raatl, You mean the LCD on the back of the camera right?  The image that shows up (playback) can have the duration changed in the menu settings, it may have been turned off which is a choice as well that mode (not having the LCD on) extends shooting time which used to be a problem with the earl D70 and the earlier battery type.  The D80 doesn't have that issue, try experimenting with how much time you really need to have the display on, if you shoot and like to show the image to people set it longer or just hit the playback a couple of times as you are showing people.

According to my information, the camera may need a new flash PCB (printed circuit board). Check the repair service search on this site for someone in your area. The part number for the circuit board is: 1S014-020-1 and runs about 50$

D70 USB setting issue

Users of Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.x may experience problems trying to download images from the Nikon D70 using Nikon View. Initial shipments of the D70 have the USB option in the "Set up" menu set to PTP - Picture Transfer Protocol. PTP is only compatible for downloading images with Windows XP and Mac OS X. To solve this issue please set the USB menu option to Mass Storage and then connect the camera to the computer. The D70's card will then mount like a removable disk and Nikon View will be able to transfer images
