This problem can occur if all the following conditions are true:

  • You originally installed Office from a network administrative installation.
  • The network administrative installation is no longer available to you.
  • You are trying to use an Office CD-ROM when you are prompted by the Windows Installer for an Office source location.
  • You click Cancel when you are prompted to insert the CD.
Because the files in an administrative installation are uncompressed, and the files on an Office CD-ROM are compressed, the Windows Installer cannot resolve the differences between the two source types.

    1. Close all of the error messages described in the "Symptoms"
      section of this article.

    2. Leave the correct Microsoft Office 2000 CD in your
      computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

    3. Start Microsoft Office 2000 Setup either by attempting to
use the "install on first use" component that you previously attempted to use,
or by running Microsoft Office 2000 Setup from the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel. Or, attempt to use the clip art that you
      previously attempted to use.

4.17 Prompting driver file is damaged when opening it.
Please make sure that your drivers have been downloaded completely. You can click 'Tools' icon then choose 'Drivers download manager' to check download progress. The completely downloading drivers will be marked a 'green check' in Drivers Download Manager. If not please choose the unfinished driver and press 'download' button to continue.

Use an Alternative Network Administrative Installation loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); If the original administrative installation from which you installed Office is not available, you can use a different administrative installation for the Office source file location. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type a command line similar to the following, and then click OK new network path\Setup.exe /fvm package name.msiwhere new network path is the full path to the alternative network administrative installation, and package name is the name of the Windows Installer .msi package on the root of this administrative installation (for example, Proplus.msi).

  3. Click OK when the update is finished.
Note After you follow these steps, the Windows Installer uses this new server location whenever it needs to reinstall, repair, or add a feature to your Office installation.

This page should help you if the previous didn't

I'd suggest un-installing and re-installing a free program like OpenOffice from JAVA.

It is not only free but is a lot more Effective and faster than Microsoft Office.

Hi there and welcome to FixYa

  • When Microsoft Office 2003 Setup runs, the incorrect CD is in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. For example, if you are running Microsoft Office 2003 CD1 Setup, CD2 is in your drive.
  • When you are prompted to insert the correct CD, you remove the incorrect CD; insert the correct CD, and then click OK.

Hi, while re-installing, normal uninstall is not enough. After you uninstall, some files would be left behind. Please delete them manually. They should be inside the folders where you installed (probably in C:\ Program Files\   folder).
Then try installing the fresh copy of the both softwares. and for any updates on microsoft products, get it from www.microsoft.com or  www.msfn.org/

That error generally signifies that a part of office is trying to install, but the installation of Office you have was a network installation, and thus it's looking for the network install path.

To remedy this, you'd have to have an office cd (same version of course) and when it asks for the location, point it to the file it's looking for on the cd.  Otherwise, I'd suggest uninstalling Office and reinstalling from the cd.

Run a windows update from your start menu. It should tell you if you need an update to the program, if so it will download the necessary files. If the program is no longer supported, you can find the solution in the microsoft solutions web site, which you will be on if the update dosen't work.

Also i should have mentioned you ned to direct it to the files if you are going to do it the way you started. Something like C, program files, microsoft office, office. then the specific program, and then the folder that has the driver in it, this is why you are better off letting the microsoft update do this for you, as long as it's a registered copy, it should be supported.,Peace

To resolve this error permanently, you must repair the Office 2003 installation. This resolution is intended for advanced computer users. If you are not comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, you might want to ask someone for help or contact Support. For information about how to do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ (http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/) Repair the Office 2003 installation To repair the Office 2003 installation, use the Local Installation Source Tool. You can download the Local Installation Source Tool from the following Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=10FA7AA3-695B-42C3-9045-B812BA0FED3E&displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=10FA7AA3-695B-42C3-9045-B812BA0FED3E&displaylang=en) After you have downloaded the tool, double-click the LISTool.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.

The Local Installation Source Tool is a wizard that helps manage your Local Installation Source (LIS) on computers that are running Microsoft Office 2003. The LIS is the group of installation files that Setup copies to a hidden folder on your computer when you install Office 2003 from a CD or from a compressed CD image on a network. The LIS Tool lets you enable or disable the LIS, and to move the MSOCache folder to a new volume.

Note If these methods do not work, the files in the \MSOCache\All Users\download code folder may not match the files on the CD that you provided. Make sure that the CD that you inserted matches the product that is being requested. For example, the product that is already installed on the computer may be Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003.

However, the CD may contain files for Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003. If this is the case, remove the Microsoft Office product, and then install the product again from the available CD.

Preinstalled excel will not open error message

this problem arises if the office feature you're trying to use has not been installed or is set to install on the first use and you don't have the setup file.. to get it back you can do two things..
    1. Uninstall the present version and install a fresh copy and choose typical installation before installing.
    2. In add or remove programs choose 'change' option given for office and then insert the cd and install the missing files..

Problems installing ms office pro 2007

hi Error 1706 is a Microsoft error that is sometimes generated when you install a Windows package from some form of removable data. Examples of removable data would be a CD-ROM or a DVD. Typically, the exact text of Error 1706 will include the phrase "no valid source could be found."
One of the usual causes of this problem is that the Windows Installer or MSI file is not residing in the root folder of the media that is found on the removable data. This does not mean that the MSI file is not somewhere on the media -- just that it is not in the folder that your system is checking. While, in most cases, the Media Package Path would be altered to create a clear path to the MSI file.

    thank you
