It depends what kind of router/dsl u have and usb stick or pci card , if u use from the both brands than its easy to install, first the modem/router you should configure it good in the gateway (192.168.1.1) or something like that u should look in the manuel, than install the software for the stick or pci card than install, than it should work fine

Take a look at these as a good example of what you need.
Almost any one of thse will help you out. You need to decide on an internal card, installed in the case or an external USB device, some of which look like a flash drive.

How do I connect my linksys wireless router?

Here are the steps :

1.Attach the antennas to the Linksys wireless router.

2.Place the router in a central location, making sure it's not surrounded by metal. (A signal can't be obtained through metal.) The router should be located so that the distance between clients (computers) is somewhat equal. This will create a better connection.

3.Plug the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the back of the Linksys router.

4.Connect a computer to the router by plugging another Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer and attaching the other end to one of the available ports on the back of the router. You can choose any port except the one labeled "WAN."

5.Plug the router into an electrical outlet.

6.Wait for the power light to stop flashing, at which time the router is finished booting up. While the router is booting, the power light will be blinking. This process may take a few minutes to complete.

7.Reboot your computer so it can access a new IP address from the router through the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

Configure the Router procedure.

1.Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."

2.Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank.

3.Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup."

4.Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP.

5.Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password.

6.Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

Wireless connection set up

Are you trying to hook up the laptop wirelessly to the pc? because then the pc would need to have a wireless card as well....sounds like I need more info, but if you are trying to do what I think you are, you should just get a wireless router instead, hook the pc tower directly to it via ethernet cable, and then setup the laptop to connect to the router. The router would hook to your dsl or cable router....what service do you have?

Slow Wireless

I'll assume from the wording of your question that you are using a USB wireless adapter. For the most part you get better performance out of a PCI wireless card (and better range) but you should also run a scan and clean with this program to make sure that your performance issues aren't due to spyware or malware also.

Cant display netgear setup page

  1. Decide on a Netgear router. There are a number of router offerings, and prices and features differ depending on the model. Choose one that meets your needs and fits your price range.
  2. Step 2 Purchase a Netgear router, looking for the best price possible. Consumer electronics shopping sites like NewEgg and TigerDirect often offer good deals on clearance, open boxes or shipping (see Resources below).
  3. Step 3 Place the router by clearing a space on or under a desk. The router should be located centrally to reduce the distance to clients and assure better connections. The location will vary depending on how it will be used. For example, it shouldn't be placed in the corner of a basement if wireless clients all over the house will be using it.
  4. Step 4 Set up and plug in the Netgear router and wait a few seconds for it to boot up. Since the router is essentially a mini-computer, it won't work instantly when it's turned on. While it's booting, the power light should flash. When it's finished booting, the power light should stay solid.
  5. Step 5 Connect a computer to the router, either with a wireless or a wired connection. Reboot the computer to ensure it gets a new IP address from the router via Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
  6. Step 6 Open the web interface by entering "http://192.168.1.1/" into the address bar of your web browser. If a login screen is presented, use "admin" as the username and either "1234" or "password" as the password.
  7. Step 7 Connect to the Internet, if necessary. Plug your cable modem or DSL modem into the router's WAN port in the back and run the Internet Connectionmag-glass_10x10.gif Setup Wizard from the web interface.
  8. Step 8 Follow the directions and provide authentication information.
  9. Step 9 Connect more clients. At this point, clients should be able to connect and access the Internet.

GoodLuck ;-)

Pressing the wireless button, but it does not light

Typically, if your router is both a wired and wirless, then you have to IP into the router, configure the wireless network and put the encryption key on whatever computers are connecting to it.

typically, default IP is 192.168.1.1

Open explorer and type just: 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and it should open a login box. Use the user/password that is the default for your router.

It may be stamped on the bottom of the router along with the IP address i mentioned above, or similar to, in which you should use that one.

Now once you are in, you configure the system manually such as type of network, channel number, passwords and what not.

If it is a linksys it should have an easy setup CD that will do most of the work for you and is self explanitory.

If you still have trouble, please provide us with the Make and model of the router so we can help you better.

Good luck

Shut each network device down, then pull the power from the Modem and Router, wait a minute and power up the Modem, then wait another minute and start the Router, then you can fire all computers and Xbox. Keep in mind what your Bandwidth is and how much each device is using when you encounter problems and consider disconnecting unneeded devices when one device requires more. I know the last part should have nothing to do with your losing signal question. And you'll have to consider the distance each wireless device is from the "N" router also.
Did you have another router running without these problems before installing the Belkin N router?

Marcia...............Is this a small home system here. Was this an onsite tech. ISP is Internet Service Provider and not so sure that is the issue. WOW this can get confusing. Perhaps this tech can redo his work for sake of your time. An adapter does allow the ISP to see how many PCs you are using.
Sorry Marcia .................Really would be nice if Mr. Tech could reassist you on this.
