Question about Sony VAIO RB30C (VGCRB30) PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RB30. It will turn on and the mouse does not work. It shows the amber light on the front. I can use the key board to move around and use the computer. I cannot enter safe mode when windows starts up (normally I press F1 and nothing happens). I feel like i just need to restart the computer from a previously saved point before the problem occured. (The amber light stays on while the computer is plugged in, even when the computer is off.) Please help.

Josh-

You should try to get a hold of a USB mouse (different one)
If you shut down the machine and restart using this mouse it will be automatically detected and should bypass the problem.

Once you are in you can enter the device manager (right click on MY COMPUTER and properties)

Find Mice and other pointing devices in the list and delete any that look disabled or yellow (!)

Good Luck!

Where is the sleep button on the VGC-RB52? Is it different from the power button?

It is the same as the power button if your computer is set to sleep when you push power. I was looking too because when you go into the power options in the control panel it shows a button with a half moon as the sleep button, but I don't have that on my keyboard. So I put the question in Vaio help and it said use the power button. I guess some Vaio keyboards have a half moon button, but mine doesn't. I did notice that when I thought I had turned it off using the power button when it got hung up that it did come back up with the move of the mouse. So it really is the power button, as long as it's set that way in the control panel.

My sony vgc rb30 will not reboot pass the xp logo. the recovery cd will not work because I cannot get into the operating system

Sometimes USB devices will interfere with the bootup of windows XP. Try disconnecting any usb devices you are using, from least important to most important to see if that helps.

Wireless mouse locks up

I would suggest investing in a USB mouse. They never have this problem and are very cheap to buy. I have found that wireless mice are prone to problems. I would say there is a problem in the connection between your mouse and the laptop but this sort of problem is quite hard to find. As I said, you are better off with USB mouse.
