My Lexmark printer X-4270 will not print. When I try restarting the spooler I get this 1068 error stating "could not start the print spooler service on Local Computer. The dependency service or group failed to start".
Has anyone encountered similar problems.
Your computer now has no Lexmark software installed. It therefore should not have the Lexmark as one of your printers. If it still does, delete that printer - make sure that the printer is disconnected from the computer, and click Start > Printers and Faxes, or if you don't have that shortcut, Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Printers and Faxes. Select the Lexmark and press delete.
Next, I suggest you try to manually reset the spooler as follows: 1) Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. 2) You should see "C:\" - if there is anything after the slash, then type cd.. and press ENTER. Repeat this until you see C:\ with nothing after it. 3) Type net stop spooler, and pressENTER (you should get a message saying the spooler has stopped). 4) Type net start spooler, and press ENTER (you should get a message saying the spooler has started). 5) Type exit [Press ENTER.]
Assuming this worked, try installing the printer normally according to the instructions (I don't recall whether your model requires the CD to be inserted before or after the printer is connected to the PC).
If this sequence of steps did not work, then there may be a problem with a system driver that supports the spooler process. There are a few different ways to approach that - let me know if you still have a problem and we'll go from there. H2H

Re: Printer Spooler error 1068
This sounds like a software problem (in other words, your printer is not the issue). Here's what I suggest:
1) Save whatever you were attempting to print, and restart the computer. Try printing it again. 2) If it doesn't work, try uninstalling the software for your printer, and then re-install it. In the event you don't have the software handy, you can download the driver from this website:

go back to your services where you start the print spooler. open the dependency tab. there it will tell you what other services the print spooler needs to have running. check them and if any are disabled change them to auto and restart them. reboot and you should be OK.
I appreciate the opportunity to help you. Try the following:
Check dependency services on Print Spooler ================================ 1.Click "Start", input "services.msc" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". 2.Double click the “Print Spooler” service. 3.Choose “Dependencies” Tab and remember the services name. 4.In the service list window, find the dependency services and try to start them. 5.Please try to start the “Print Spooler” service again.
See if this helps. If it does, please fill in the rating of my service to you. Thanks for using Fixya.com
HI, right click on my computer -> select manage -> one should be
services and something (or something like that) open that and go to
services -> find the printer spool service and right click on it
-> click on properties -> in the printer spool service properites
click the "Start" button and also under a drop down menu change it from
"Disabled" to "Automatic".... This is what you did right ?
Log in to Administrator account and try it there. If that doesn't work then install a fresh copy of Windows Xp. It should work now. Thank you.
From what you're saying the windows print spooler service is not starting following the installation of your printer (and thereby you cannot print i'm assuming)
try the following to start the print spooler service if it is not already running.
Right Click My Computer
Click "Services and Applications"
Scroll down to "Print Spooler" and double click on it to open up the properties page
where it says "startup type" select automatic from the combo box list
If the service is NOT running, start it by clicking "start"
The print spooler service is started now, and **should** work properly. If the spooler is still not starting properly, then you may have a driver issue and i reccommend uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for your printer.
hi! Print Spooler is actually a service for your Operating system- Try this
Click on start and click on run in the open box type in services.msc and your services local window should open, scroll down and look for print spooler, highlight it and do a right click and on the dropdown menu left click on stop and it will go to a process of stopping the service and then right click back and click on start. if you get an error message about print spooling or spooler, then that means you have a problem with the operating system. call or go to microsoft help and support online in that case. and RPC server unavailable error has something to do with a network printer. but i believe you setup the printer locally.
A 1068 is a service dependency error. Print Spooler can't start because it thinks a service it depends on is not running.
click Start, then click run. Type in "services.msc" without the " " marks
Go into services and check its
dependencies, it should just be the RPC service, which you shouldn't be
able to stop, check that RPC is running
Double click print
spooler and click the dependencies tab. See if there are any other
dependencies set besides rpc. If so you will want to find them in
services and make sure they are set to automatic and are running (will
probably need to start them).
Then try to start "Print Spooler" service, should work. May need to reinstall printer drivers then.
