Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
I can't seem to install my linksys router with my u-verse RG. The router installation cd makes it seem simple by just plugging in the wires from the ethernet to the router and a cable from the router back into the LAN on the RG but nothing happens. The model number on the router is a WRT54G2. From the web, I've surmised I have to change settings on the RG and possibly the router. I guess I need step by step directions, I just don't want to screw up the whole u-verse setup.
First, make sure that the wireless network capability ofthe U-Verse RG is diabled (since you're using the Linksys for that purpose).
Second, make sure the ethernet cabel from the back of the RG connects to an LAN port on the Linksys (NOT the Linksys's WAN port).
Finally, disable the DHCP feature on the Linksys (since DHCP should be active on the U-VerseRG). Here's how:
1) Install the Linksys software on your computer and open your internet browser.
2) Type the URL 192.168.1.1 (default for Linksys access ponts).
3) You'll be asked to enter a username and password. The default is username "admin" and password either "admin" or [blank].
4) Once you've logged in, scroll down on the basic settings page (the one that loads automatically) to where it says Network Address Server Settings (DHCP). Click the radio button next to Disable, then click Save Settings at the bottom.
What you've basically done is make the Linksys another computer in your network, and the one that others will connect to the RG through.
I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
