Video freezes when streaming to the internet

Hi folks: Just bought one of these cameras to try and so far it seems great - much better image quality than the wirless X-10 cameras I had been using. One issue has occurred. When using the active X over the internet to view the video the video seems to freeze about every 5 to 10 seconds - it usually comes back after another few seconds. (Freezing does not occur on my local network) Would I be correct to assume that this is an uplink problem? - i.e. upload capacity of my DSL line is not fast enough to accomodate the streaming video? I set the image to be 160 x 120, 15 fps and very high compresion - this seemed to help a bit. Is there anything else I should be doing (firmware version is 3.00 2005-11-16) Best regards, thanks for any suggestions you can offer... Dave Melnyk, Toronto, Canada

Re: Video freezes when streaming to the internet

I'm having the same problem except ten times worse. I am positive it has to do with the router, because I had to mess with it to get my Windows Live messenger to work...

Are you connected through a router?

Re: Video freezes when streaming to the internet

Dave, While of course it may be a capacity issue. Is the video smoother at different times of the day? or is it every 5-10 seconds no matter what time of day. It may be security software checking the stream. How is your firewall/router set? Do you have a designated port for the camera? Let me know if that helps at all. Good Luck, Tim

Hi I have downloaded skype for my web camera but camera not working very well

You won't get a great call quality when you're on wireless, especially when there are other people using your network. You also want to make sure that you're not downloading anything or watching streaming video from youtube or hulu when you're on it as it will greatly reduce the quality of the call. You will see things such as choppy frame rate, frozen images, etc. Try and hard wire into your router if it's really bad, else try and wait for a time where nobody is using your network.

LifeCam 1.4 & Skype - the other person can't see me, only hear me

First off, click here: ( for the latest version of the webcam software. Second, if after upgrading the software it still doesn't work, you might have a faulty camera. I bought the VX-6000 and the audio didn't work. They sent me a new one, and its been great since. If you do NOT have high-speed internet (or the recipient doesn't), that's where your problem is. Video streaming, especially live streaming, needs internet broadband speeds to work optimally.

Frozen picture on web camera quickcam pro 9000

Check this; is a bug for Series 9000.

Splitcam has been known and used by some Skype users for quite some time, as a work-around to get Skype to accept video from devices that it wouldn't otherwise see, generally non-webcam devices such as DV camera adapters, video adapter cards and the like. It does seem to "work", at least in so far as some of those people have come back and said thanks, that solved the problem.

Conceptually it could avoid the Pro 9000 problem, since it would be handling the camera, and it has already been well established here that the "video freezing" and various other problems do not seem to occur when the Pro 9000 is used with other IM programs, or even with previous versions of Skype. However, it would add another layer of processing to your data stream, and a corresponding load to your computer, and it might have some negative effects in terms of speed/quality of the video stream. Of course, in my opinion "some negative effects" would have to be put into context compared to "not working at all" if that is your current situation with the Pro 9000, so what the heck, it's worth a try.

I have not seen any reports of virus/spyware/other associated with splitcam; I have seen a couple of comments about it having to be open and displaying adverts, I guess it depends on how much that might bother you; I just ignore that sort of thing and write it off to "they've got to make money somehow".

If you decide to try it, please let us know here how it goes.

Hope help you. Good luck.

Seems not a problem of your camera as the image it records of you is transmitted clearly to the folks you call. Maybe those people should get the same camera you use.

Or it their/your internet connection upload/download speed

Or it is skype - i use skype, but some of my friends move to MSN as they say it supports better quality experience of video chats

Image freezes

My computer freezes every time I use my camera. What can I do?
trnsp.gif Answer Normally if a camera freezes after a few seconds, it is related to the USB chipset you are running. Some chipsets do not have enough bandwidth to support a camera. Make sure you are plugging the camera directly into the computer while testing and unplug any other USB devices you may have except a keyboard or a mouse.
To resolve the issue, we recommend using the USB troubleshooting steps detailed in Troubleshooting USB Issues.
If you have the same issue but do not have the USB chipsets discussed in the document, please make sure you have the latest version of the Logitech camera software AND the latest version of DirectX.
You may also want to slow down the hardware acceleration. To do this, right click on the desktop and choose Properties. Click on Advanced/troubleshoot. Lower the hardware acceleration, apply any changes and try the camera again.
If you are running Windows XP, please make sure you have the latest sound card, video card and Windows XP updates. You can get the sound card and video card updates from the card manufacturers or PC manufacturers web site. You can get the Windows XP updates from Microsoft. With the release of any new operating system, we suggest that you check for updates to the operating system and hardware drivers. These updates can resolve many video streaming issues.

Webcam freeze, bad cam or what?

It is not the web cam or the computer why it freezes. It is the internet connection using in the philippines. the upload stream is too slow thats it lags the image. It could also be caused by the computer memory. But most of the time it is the connection. Be sure that when he/ she is using the webcam, shes not doing other things on the internet like downloading or browsing.
