What is error 99 in canon eos 20d

It's a frustrating catch all error and needs service. The camera may have any one of numerous issues or lens issues. If you have more than one lens, see if the error occurs with both lenses on. If not then it's a lens error. A camera repair facility can plug unit the camera and download a more accurate troubleshooting code. Royal Camera Service in Hanover Park, IL is good source for this problem. The replaced the shutter on my 20D when I got the error 99 code.

I have a Canon 40D and have never replaced the original lithium battery as someone told me that rechargeable Li - ion batteries don't have a lifespan. My picture quality isn't what it use to be...

The battery does not affect the picture quality. The recharageable battery may affect the auto focus if the battery is low, recharging the battery should fix this problem. Otherwise the camera needs a service.

Can't control shutter speed

Well you can get the Canon Battery Grip For EOS-40D/30D/20D Model# BG-E2N, which has a separate set of controls including the wheel. OEM is about $170 Chinese clones $80. The camera body will probably sell for about $200 as is on eBay.

Shutter will fire intermitantly on Canon 40D. It focuses but will not fire but if pressed repeatedly it will fire after several shutter presses. I have changed batteries, I have swapped to other lenses...

This is just a possibility not really a solution: If the AF spot is aimed at a part of the picture lacking details, it cannot focus (all cameras are the same in that respect) Normally (I don't know the canon) there is an indicator to tell you if the camera managed to focus. It can be a beep or a dot which light in the viewfinder. I suspect that in your case you were aiming at something lacking details.

Lost autofocus on 40D when using ST-E2 and 2 580EX

Try taking the battery out and putting it back in. If that doesn't work try cleaning the len's contact sesnors with a pencil eraser.

Soft digital images/ not sharp

Wow... Yes it can be fixed but only by a professional tech. You have either slightly shifter the reflector or damaged the sensor. There is also a possibility that you have loosened the auto focus as well. It may be just a simple adjustment. If it becomes too expensive of a fix I REALLY suggest an upgrade to a 40d. They are now affordable and there is a significant improvement in the models. You lenses are also compatible.

Help me

Most digital SLR cameras take pictures with an aspect ratio of 2 to 3. (This is based on the size of 35 mm film, where the images were 24 x 36 mm, a 2 to 3 ratio.) That is a different ratio than 8 x 10 inches, which is 4 to 5. There is no way to change the aspect ratio in the camera, so you will have to make sure when you're taking pictures that will be printed on 8 x 10 paper, you leave the processor extra area to crop the portion that won't fit in the 8 x 10 frame.

For information, the 8 x 10 picture became popular when many portrait photographers used 4 x 5 large format film cameras, which obviously will fit perfectly in an 8 x 10 frame without cropping.
