Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a kitchenaid refrigerator - 8 years old - the freezer compartment door won't seal because the rail/track for opening and closing the door is cracked - I have been chasing replacement parts for 6 months - always 20 days on backorder - is there another valid source of these rails - or is there a way to get Kitchenaid to get them for me now vice waiting for the computer parts-ordering system to finally kick in

the model number is kbr36mhsoo - ser nr. qj3000059 - the part number for the bracket/rails is 4388545 - I have no reason to believe the seal is bad, the door cannot shut properly because of the broken rail which allows the right side to sag about a 1/4 inch. My problem ( after working with Kitchenaid parts folks directly and going thru two different "authorized" repair organizations) is that KA has been saying for 6 months that the "are on backorder and will be available within 10 - 20 days".  K/A is clearly waiting to have enough to  order to justify the effort to place an order - in the meantime I sit without a freezer.
I neither need a real way to get the parts or a way to get high enough in the K/A chain to energize them!

You need to replace the door seal, this is not a difficult operation.

You find parts and diagrams by entering model number here.

Why is there frost on the underside of the bottom shelf of the freezer door of our Kitchenade Supra side by side refrigerator?

You're getting moisture into the compartment somehow...check door seals and the door cams/hinges make sure its closing correctly....air from outside getting in will freeze up....

Kitchenaid kbfs25ewms2 freezer leaking water

Normally I would agree a water line is the issue however on this particular fridge this is not the case. If you open the freezer door, notice the placement of your hand. Unless it is dead center of the handle this is the cause of the problem and what I believe is a major design flaw. Depending if left or right handed, every time the door is opened the metal tracks that hold the door are being bent. If you remove the bottom freezer basket you will notice the back support bar that is attached to the metal rails is not longer straight. What ends up happening is, certain times when the door is pushed closed it seals completely and other times it does not. The times it does not, there is inch gap between the rubber seal on the door and the fridge itself(left or right side). The freezer warms up and items start to melt. As the cycle of freeze and thaw continues you end up with the entire basin full of ice. Eventually when the door does not shut properly and the ice melts it has nowhere to go expect your floor. This is why sometime you will have a pool of water and sometimes you won't but it always leak from a corner. Learned this first hand and ending up ruining 30sq of hardwood floor

do not reattach the old door but replace the door with a new seal . some of these units had poor door closure when new . the new door is better . and you will have dissamble unit to install door .

My fisher and paykel refrigerator keeps freezing my food, then its ok, then it freezes up my food again, I have adjusted it, but still no good.its 8 years old

you will need to check your damper door between the freezer and refrigerator compartments and watch to see if its opening and closing when you adjust your refrigerators cold control, then if it doesn't move after adjustment the control will need to be replaced

Frigidaire FRT17G4BW9 doors not staying closed

Adjust the front legs of your refrigerator slightly to raise the refrigerator. and and store items on the freezer door shelves to add weight. This is a problem of pneumatics and a testament to how tight newer refrigerators are. When you close the large refrigerator door it compresses the air in the refrigerator compartment. Both compartments are connected by air passages and thus the pressure change is transferred to the freezer causing the freezer door to pop open.

Raising the front of the refrigerator a tiny bit will help both doors close from the 90 degree point, which is desirable. Adding weight to the shelf will just help the process.

An additional aid in self-closure will be to use vegetable oil on a paper towel to wipe down the hinge side face of both door seals. All these maneuvers should aid in causing the door to stay closed and re-close if it should open slightly. Good Luck

Freezer door rubbing

take the freezer door off and put a washer or two on the bottom hinge. sometimes there are extra plastic washers on the top hinge that you can move to the bottom to lift it up.
also check if the hinge is bent or loose, as this may cause the problem.
