How to Hook up ATI 9600 to PC

Hi Folks,

I was given a PC that has an AGP ATI 9600 card in it. However I didn't get an owners manual. I tried to watch a DVD on my TV screen using the PC. I used the S-Video wire to hook up the PC to my TV. I also had a sound wire. But when I played the DVD Movie, the signal didn't go to the TV. Or if it did, I couldn't see it. So how do I do this? How do I watch a movie on my TV using my PC with this card in it?

I also have heard there's an online owners manual for this card. It's supposed to be a PDF file. Do you kn0ow where I can get it?

Thank You

Hey Thanks for answering. I* tried to change the TV input to thew S-video, but I don't see h0w to do it. This is a 2000 Sony TV. It's a good set. It has several inputs. On the remote control there is a button that lets me change to the different inputs. But there was no S-video choice. And yet the TV does have a place to plug the V-Video cable into. So I'm stumped. I don't know what to do?

Hi! It might be helpful to read other's reviews of this card so you will be better able to handle any problems, then go to the other url for manual and software. You will also need Windows media player or Real Player or some similar sofftware to play a movie properly.

Did you switch the TV input to S-Video on the TV control panel (usually accessible via the remote)? You will also likely need to fit a 1/8" (mini-headphone jack) connector from your PC to RCA (Red and White audio standard) connectors on the TV - this cable can be purchased in many places. The S-Video connector doesn't carry audio like an HDMI connector will.

I have not been able to add any AGP card to my PC.
My PC is a cube PC so I have been trying to install a "low end" AGP video card without a separate power connector. My only really requires are DirectX 9.x support and a minimum of 128MB (and no power connector)

The card I am currently trying to install is a Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9600Pro with 256MB.

I have also tried a ATI Radeon 9550 with 256MB and a Nvidia card

I have done all of the usual things, such as disabling onboard graphics, removing old video drivers, verified latest chipset drivers are installed, I reviewed the graphic adapter and don't see any conflicts etc.

I wonder if any of the cards I am trying to install will work with my AGP slot.
The manual for this Gigabyte card states "AGP 3.0 Slot or greater is required"
Unfortunately, this requirement wasn't on the Gigabyte or NewEgg web sites or the back of the box. Only in the install manual.

My Motherboard manual states "AGP 1.5v Card is required".

I got great AGP information from www.playtool.com. I used some of the tools suggested there such as Sandra Lite and other tools to try to determine what version my AGP Slot is. These tools don't seem to clearly state what

My PC is a Small Form Factor PC with 220W Power Supply.
It has integrated Intel Extreme Graphics
gBox P4 Blue CF-986L
Motherboard is a CFI-968L with last bios released (1.04)
www.american-media.com
Pentium 4 3.06Ghz
1G RAM
80G HD
Chipset is Intel 845GE
Intel Extreme Graphics
Windows XP Home

This is a awesome PC and I really would like to extend the life of it my adding any AGP card that supports DirectX 9.x

Intel P$ 1.8 mhz on a D845HV/D845WN board

Before removing your current card swap video outputs on the PC. If currently connected to the VGA output switch to the HDMI connector AT the video card. Use the HDMI to VGA adapter that came with the video card. Check & see if the display loads Pc starts. Taking the information directly from your motherboard manual pg. 25, your AGP video can only run at, AGP supporting 1.5 V 4X AGP cards. The 9600pro runs at 8x & it is not backwards compatible. (able to run at either 8x or 4x). You could run the Sappire ATI Radeon 256MB 9550 DDR AGP 4x/8x 1.5volt card.
Here is one site: http://www.colordrives.com/sapphire-ati-radeon-9550-256mb-ddr-agp-4x-8x-video-card---retail-box.html
When you do get the video card be sure to set your bios AGP to the correct size as listed in your manual pg. 109 subsection 4.4.7
I hope this helped.

ATI 9600 xt problems

Hi, Im guessing that your motherboard has an intergrated video card & you installed the 9600 card into the opened AGP slot on the board. If you would have listed the model number of your motherboard I would't have to guess. What you need to do is enter your bios & make a change so your bios loads the AGP slot & not the intergrated video card. How to get into your bios? As soon as you turn on the Pc press the Delete key every two seconds. If your system fails to load the bios than you will need to try some of the others F keys. Let the PC finish loading. Re-start the PC. As it starts up try the F1 key every two seconds. Continue in this manner using these other F keys untill your system boots into the bios. F2, F10 or F12. One will work for you. Once in the bios use your manual if you have one. You are looking for Video display. You want the bios to load the AGP slot first, this will disable the intergrated video automatically. Your Pc will now see your 9600 video card & you will be able to load it's software. If the 9600 uses ATI's software you should update the Radeon software by going to ATI/AMD & update your video software with the latest drivers. Click the link I have posted below to upgrade your Radeon 9600XT card. Good idea to save the link.

It appears that the mobo is AGP 8x, and this video card also appears to be AGP 8x - so you should be able to use it just fine.

Just a thought, but have you tried going into the bios setup and setting bios to system defaults or safe setting, saving and rebooting?
