Dear sir thanks for visiting fixya. its an lcd display problem. try to repair from service centre. that is the only solution. sorry for unsatisfied answer. regards murali
First remove the camcorder battery for a couple of minutes, this will reset the settings.
There must also be a reset command in the settings or tools menu on the camcorder, do also a reset from there.
If after resetting the camcorder still gives same problem, that is a fault concering either the main board, or the contact to the array sensor. Particularly if you get sound but no picture, the problem can be the array sensor, as this is the part that receive the light signal to take the picture.
The camera must be taken apart to fix this. If the problem is not solved by resetting the settings, it is better having this kind of repair done by a technician.
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, pls try loading an old but known to be good tape. Play it back, if the display is still black, then the problem is with the LCD display circuitry of the VM-L153. If however, the video would appear to be clear and viewable, then the problem is the CCD of the camera itself.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
Without seeing the camera itself, I can only speculate, but it sounds liket he iris is mal-functioning. In "preview" mode, you should see a picture in the viewfinder. Is the picture there? This is the mode where the camera is on and you have not yet pushed the record button. If the picture is there, then the CCD is working as expected. If not, then the problem can be either a stuck iris or the CCD. If you get an initial picture than it just cuts out (as you describe) rather than the picture FADING, the problem is likely to be the CCD or related circuits. Realize that a bad power supply can cause this as well. Given the camera's age, it is possible that filter capacitors on the power suply line have failed and are loading down the suppy effectively shutting down the CCD.
This can be fixed, but will require some investigation to determine the exact cause. Expect a repair bill in the $150 range for labor with parts in the $10 range.

Hello sir,
thank you for ask FIXYA
I ALWAYS TOLD SIMPLE solution,
this problem that you have to ask us
i think problem in your cam stings
reset your stings if problem still,
then problem is in your LCD
coz if problem in cam then cam dos,t picks sound
contact a professional cam repair man
Basically check the settings of your camcorder like the mode of it. if your camcorder cant get the sound clear by the built in mic then you have an option to use a microphone device for it. i hope that your camcorder has an interface for mic. if still all the problem persist then it has to be a technical problem where it is located on the inside of your camcorder and it should be send to repair service. hope that helps
thank you for using fixya and happy holidays

Ok.. Does the camera record video? If yes then its just a display problem.I would check to see if the LCD's connectors are in place and for loose contacts. If not you might have to get a new display. Should cost you around 50$ and is pretty easy to replace..
Okie, camera can have one of two seperate problems that
cause this symptom. The connector to the CCD comes loose and causes
loss of video. Also, the CCD has been a source of problems for some
time now.
Good luck to you.
You may need to clean your head.
Otherwise, Better you contact camcorder service center.

When I first start recording it does record the picture but for only about two seconds then the screen goes black. When replaying the recording it shows a black picture and sound only.
