Frist make sure that the bobbin is in correctly I know it sounds silly but check I have at least 2 machines a week or more come in and this is all that is wrong with them. if that is ok then check the bobbin case the black thing the bobbin sets in and see if it is nicked or damaged that is what normally causes this problem

Top stitch looks perfect but bobbin stitch lies flat.

what you describe indicates that the needle thread tension is too loose
it is not pulling the bobbin thread up and that is creating the birds nest under the material

What is the factory tension setting for the Brother LS-2125i sewing machine?

you probably wont find it listed anywhere as it is from experience and changes with different material thickness and needle size
SO how to set tension
thread the machine and adjust the tension until you feel a drag on the thread
now thread the needle and sew a piece of scrap material
if the thread bunches up underneath then increase the thread tension until it sews properly
if the bottom thread is pulled to the top or the thread keeps breaking loosen ti off a bit
when the stitch is being properly formed , both bottom and top threads should meet at the center of the two materials being sewn

The zig zag stitch is on the bottom of the fabric instead of the top how do I fix this for a Singer sewing machine model 7015

In two words, this sounds like a problem with: thread tension. Quite possibly to the point of having an entirely mis-threaded machine, whether because the thread was not routed correctly, or because parts of the thread path are missing.
(Let's review - just for a sec - the basics of how the stitch is formed. The needle, carrying the upper thread in its eye, penetrates the material. When below the material, the needle begins traveling back upward, creating a loop in the thread. (Depending upon the type of machine, either a hook or a shuttle) then pulls this loop so that the lower/ bobbin thread runs then through it. Then, as the needle retracts further upward, an arm (between the tensioning disc/spring and the needle thread path) pulls upward of the thread, tightening the stitch into place.

If, for example, there is no tension at the tensioning disc/spring, that arm will take from the thread spool instead of tightening the stitch into place.

The bottom stitching looks like a line and not stitches the top stitching is fine

whether its bias or straight does not matter to machine. loosen the bobbin tension and put more tension on take up spring by inserting a screwdriver in the slot of the top thread tensioner. turn to right.

My thread on the top of the material is stitched fine.. the bottom stitch ballons

try changing the needle
rethread the machine use every thread guide
check to see if the thread has come off the thread take up lever
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint
if none of these suggestions work, then the machine needs to be
checked to see if there is a problem with the timing

New needle, clean under bobbin case and look at this.......Looping thread underneath is a top thread tension issue...

Viking Designer 1 balleds / Birdnest / issues after repaired from Husk service center in midwest - replaced thread needle and adjusted tension .. freequilting and embroidery situations

birdsnest refers to a mess of thread on the underside of fabric when you start sewing (after a few stitches all looks good). if this is the case and it is happening during embroidery, switch off jump stitch thread cutting.

if it happens at the start of normal sewing, either hold your needle thread when you start sewing or make sure the needle thread is under the presser foot and held by the presser foot when you start sewing. this way you will have an inch or so of thread on top of your fabric which you can trim instead of a mess underneath.

if there is a mess underneath for more than first few stitches, either your check spring in the needle tension area is set incorrectly, or your needle tension is set too loose (adjustable in sevice menu by tech only) or there is foreign matter caught in tension assembly preventing proper tension.

The thread is knoting underneath when sewing

It sounds like you maybe using the wrong needle size for the material you are sewing, or perhaps it is the thread. I've found that not all threads are created equal and it may be too fine/heavy for the needle gauge your using.

Check out this site. All the Q&A answers in simple language, as well as a GREAT cust. support staff. (its a Brother after all!)
