How to adjust bobbin tension on 6005 elna sewing machine?

Apparently this Elna model has automatic tension settings. May be something you need to have a professional technician address.

Heirloom 6005 won't do decorative stitches or zig.....

I found out the hard way. If your machine just refuses to do any zig zag or decorative stitches..check the Twin Needle Key. I replaced the mother board at a cost of $400 and then found out that was the problem.

Elna 6005 - I need to move the tension dial to 9 to get an even stitch. I re-treaded the machine and bobbin and it is still the same. Any solutions?

it is common when threading a machine for the top thread to get behind the tension plates and not between them
this makes it bind up on the mount bolt and gives false tension settings
even threads also depend on the bottom thread tension which is adjustable by the tiny screw that holds the spring clip that you pass the thread under when you put the bobbin back in the case
try going google --type in-- workshop manual for elna 6005 --and see if there is a pdf version available,

My Elna 6005 turns on, but the mode buttons don't work at all. What can I do to fix it?

Check the "Twin Needle Button" It will interfere with decorative stitches.

How do I thread my machine? I cannot find my brochure. I sew a lot and have NEVER had this problem before--the stitches are all knotted at the back of the fabric. I dont know what I am doing wrong.

you need to check that the top thread is corrctly into the tension device, this is the most common cause of looping on the underside of the fabric because the tensioner is not pulling the top thread back up to the fabric surface as the needle is raised during the stitch sequence. Check that the tension is set to the middle number, usually 4 or 5, and that the thread has gone into the tension device. Always thread with the presser foot up, as this opens up the tension device so that the thread can seat fully.

Also double check that the bobbin thread is also fully into the tension spring and that the bobbin is in the right way, the thread needs to come off the spool and make a "V" shape as it reverses direction through the tension spring. If your bobbin is the same top and bottom, (ie plastic clear ones) it is easy to drop it in in the wrong direction. Some models have a little image on the clear bobbin cover showing right direction of rotation. Usually, when you pull thread, the bobbin will rotate counter clockwise (this is for horizontal top loading bobbins such as the modern Elnas).

If you can't find your manual then try this link to download a new one.
http://safemanuals.com search on Elna, then you should see a list of models over on the right including the 6005, click on it, then you'll get the option of giving your opinion, or using the security code to download. Click on the security code, watch the four digits that come up, and enter them into the other window alongside. You'll then get the download box. Wait for the pdf to load, its a large file.

Goodluck with your Elna.

Loose tension on bobbin thread

Using a scrap piece of material; try tightening the upper tension a bit at a time until the bobbin thread is smooth. Test stitch after each setting until you get the desired effect...happy stitching Gal.

There is a small metal 'thingamajig' that the bobbin thread goes by when it sew and every so often the plastic piece goes by that metal thing and cause loops on the underside. why is it doing this?

Be sure that your bobbin thread is correctly placed, is the correct thread for the fabric, usually the same as the top thread, the needle is correct size for fabric. Correct tension - balance your tension, use new needle for each project and correct pressure. Have the machine cleaned-lint build up. Use new thread, sometimes old thread breaks down and creates skip stitches.
