Question about Apple iPod shuffle MP3 Player
The first stop is to update your version of iTunes. Then connect your ipod to this and click the Restore button. I'm having to assume from the error message that you are connecting to a PC and not a Mac. That being the case it is likely the drivers have become corrupted rather than the device itself. Reinstalling iTunes should rectify this. Additionally try the Apple iPod Reset Utility available here.
