It will say more than just E3.....there will always be another 2 numbers flashing in the display and that combination points to where the machine thinks th problem is.
As an example...E3-10, E3-11 etc, etc.
If you remove your drum unit, you can see the sensor inside. Make sure it is clean. If the problem returns, check the toner support of the drum unit. It is probably dropping toner onto the sensor. You will also see flecks of toner on your copies if the toner support is bad.
user preset button, original size ledger and the number 3 button get's you in to service mode, F1 go to F7 by hitting 7 and start button, touch 26 and start, change number value to 120,000 and hit start button. Exit service mode by hitting user preset button and clear button.
disingage dv unit lower transport assembly remove blue screw from drum unit take drum unit out remove drum lock towards the front remove charge assemby remove drum reinstall drum remember to apply drum powder and replacement of drum blade is recommended reinstall
check drum and drum sensor. if the Drum cleaning blade (DCB) has failed and is smearing toner around the drum then the drum sensor can't see the drum. clean it with a brush. the sensor sits in the drum/ cleaning station.
The drum cleaning blade removal is pretty straight forward. 1. Remove the charge unit above the drum. 2. Remove the cover that sits above the cleaning blade. 3. Release the pressure spring at front of drum unit. 4. Remove 1 screw (front side of blade at top) holding blade in place.
I noticed that you had also had a E3-40 code previously. If toner is dropping on to your copies, the toner support blade will also have to be replaced.
