Large ink spill. Printer no longer recognized new black cartridge.

You can perform the Tap 41 Cartridge Health Diagnostics Test: [applies to HP Deskjet 6800/6900/9800]
http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1741 (refer to 2nd video to understand how to read the printed pattern)

1. With printer power on, press and hold the POWER button.
2. Press the Cancel (X) button four (4) times.
3. Press the RESUME button (Down Arrow) once.
4. Release the POWER button.
5. The Diagnostic Test Report should print.

--- A good HP 93/95/97/99 color cartridge should display 600 good nozzles, while a good HP 92/94/96/98 black ink cartridge should show 672 good nozzles. If the results yield anything different then the ink cartridge is likely damaged and will need to be replaced. Refer to 2nd video on how to read the printout: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1741

---- If the printer attempts to print the diagnostic test pattern (1 page) then the printer is generally considered operational and functional, if nothing is printed, but the printer attempts to print the pattern, then the tri-color ink cartridge is either empty, clogged or severely electrically damaged (black ink cartridge is not used). You can remove the tri-color cartridge, reactivate the tap 41 test and the printer will print the diagnostic test print in black ink (special "ink back-up mode").

I have a Dell V305 printer. I just changed both the color and the black ink cartridges. The black is okay, but the color is printing nothing but PINK!!! I am going to a Job Fair and need my resumes printed...

Hopefully there might be a simple answer for you.

First, I would say, for your resume, just print it out in black and white (use the greyscale option on your printer)

As far as the color cartridge goes, I would try the following.

First, make sure there is no tape on the print cartridge blocking the color nozzles. In many cases a manufacturer will put tape over the print heads when the package the item. Make sure any tape and residual adhesive is removed.

Second, try re-seating the cartridge. Make sure the cartridge is in the right bay (For example, if they are the same size, make sure you put the color cartridge in the bay designated for color, and black cartridge is in the one designated for black. Also, make sure the cartridges are fitting snugly and in the right direction.

Third, if this happens with more than one cartridge, the problem could be with your printer, there are metal contacts on the printer bay and the cartridge that need to be connected. you may want to try cleaning the contacts (you might be able to use a small bit of alcohol, but not too much, like a little on a q-tip) and also clean the contacts on the print cartridge too.

You can also try to run the "clean the print heads" utility. Most printers have this in their software options on your computer

Good Luck

The HP 99 cartridge is used if you would like to print photos. The HP 99 replaces the HP 96 (black) cartridge in your printer. The HP 99 cartridge has black, photo magenta, and photo cyan inks in it. When you pair this with the cyan, magenta, and yellow in your HP 97 (color) cartridge you have the full set of photo colors represented.

When the print cartridge contacts are dirty and the printer cannot detect/communicate with print cartridge.
Clean the contact points on the cartridges with a dry, lint-free cloth.
1. Open the top cover of the printer.
2. Remove the print cartridges.
3. Clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges with a damp, lint-free cloth. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove moisture from the contacts.
5. Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
6. Close the top cover.
7. Try printing again.
If you still cant communicate try with new cartridge .

Color ink cartridge

Backup mode means printing with one cartridge. If the printer tells you "cartridge failed", it probably doesn't recognize it. You can try removing it from the printer and gently wipe the electric contacts on the cartridge with a dry cloth. Turn the printer off, turn it back on and reinsert the cartridge. If the message is still there, I suggest you buy a new color cartridge. You can also go to the store where you refilled your cartridges and ask for their opinion, they may be able to help too.
