SOURCE: Both the LAMP/COVER and FAN/TEMP indicator lights come on, not blinking
with both lights solid. according to the manual all it says is (there is an electrical failure inside the unit, please take to an authorized servicer). if you are able to do this yourself you will need the schematics and a voltmeter to start testing your voltages. your lamp is fine so dont waste your money replacing that anymore. if you would like the service manual send me an email to [email protected].

I had the same problem I replaced the motor/lense cover unit at the cost of $AU140.00 and that fixed it.

Hi Marsat!
Actually both the filter cover and lamp covers have a long straight plastic part which is inserted in small hole. At the end of the holes are micro switches. When you fit the filter cover this switch is pressed and projector knows that it is ok to turn on. Similarly if lamp cover is loose the micro switch is not fully pressed resulting in this message. Tightening it presses the micro swith and the indication vanishes. In your case if plastic parts are intact, lamp cover screw is fully tight, filter is clean and properly seated with a click sound, then may be some micro switch has malfunctioned and you have no option but to take the projector to some qualified repariman.

I have had the same problem with 3 Sony VPL-EX1s and Sony will not answer emails regarding the problem. Hence I wont be purchasing Sony projectors again.

Yep, I have the same problem. First the bulb went out, blank, etc. thus the lamp light came on steady, pointing to replace bulb. So, I ordered a new one, put it in and did follow the instructions carefully. I did that lamp reset RESET, left arrow, right arrow, ENTER all one after another under 5 seconds. Still cannot get rid of the problem, new bulb will still not come on. I am at a loss and classes start next week.
Please advise if you have figured it out.
Thank you,
Cary
