Have a trouble: dish-washer will not drain.

It seems there is a problem with draining in my dish-washer. As a result it does not work. I can choose a washing program and start it, but it does not start washing. Instead it looks like the maschine attempts to drain the water from the dishwasher and cannot do it. As a result approximately in 5 minutes the dishwasher starts showing a flashing indicator light as described below.

According to dishwasher's instruction book, if there is a continous flashing of the indicator light of the running programme and in the digital display appears .20 it means that the dishwasher will not drain.

The instruction book says that two causes are possible. One is that the sink spigot is blocked. Another is that the water drain hose has not been correctly laid or it is bent or squashed.

I checked the sink spigot and it seems it is ok.
Checked the water drain hose connection and again it seems to be ok.

And the problem persists...

Just in case here is additional information: we use the dishwasher for 1.5 years. We only cleaned the filters several times. May be some other maintanance works must have been performed...

I would appreciate any advice very much.

Thank you.

- Thank you for your advice. I cannot blow through the drain hose, so it is not free. But I do not know what to do with it. Could you advise what can be done?

- It seems to me the drain hose cannot be removed at the dishwasher's end. At least I do not see how to remove it. Could you help on how to do that?

I think that the problem is not in the hose. But I believe the problem is inside the dish washer.

Moreover it seems now that when I start a program the dishwasher no longer attempts to drain water. Could it imply that there is a problem with the engine (is it a pump?) that performs this draining function? E.g. it is broken.

- it is just 1.5 years old.

Initially I could hear a noise like you describe but now only if I have my ear just at the appliance's surface.

If there is a foreign object in pump then how to remove it?

Thanks

- The problem was with its electronics. eventually I called service and they tried to change the pump engine -- but it still did not work. Finally, they had to replace the whole electronic plate -- to have it work again.

The most probable source of breakdown of electronics was insects -- there were some traces of them. So be aware -- if there are any iinsects in your area...

Thanks for all your comments and help... it is a valuable website...

bear in mind first program action is drain but at this point there should be only a small amount of liquid in machine.check spigot is free by pouring a little water down it. blow thro drain hose to check free as well - you can get a fat blockage in drain hose. if both are free you may have a blockage in exit to pump.the only other maintenaince is to use a dishwasher 2-3 times a year

- that should have been use a dishwasher cleaner 2-3 times a year

- when you say you can not blow thro drain hose, remember you must remove it at appliance end as there may be a 1-way valve after the pump to prevent syphoning. if after removing drain hose you find it blocked, just poke something thro it. as another test, pour a little liquid into dishwasher and check if pump removes it.

- when it is on drain, listen carefully for a low humming noise (not very loud) if you can hear it, then there is a foreign object in pump

how old is this appliance?

I just moved into a new house and builder had provided a dish washer drain just below my kitchen drain line.

DIsh washer install was done by me, every thing worked out OK except dish washer would not drain after a wash cycle.

Cause: drain provided by builder was blocked and needed a circular small cut before mounting drain hose over it.
