Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a black box that suddenly appeard in the middle of my screen. This takes up nearly hlf the screen and will not go away unless I hit the volume control or any other control. It then goes away for about 2 seconds but re-appears and stays in the middle of the screen. I have unplugged the cable and played only the DVD player and the black box is still on the screen.

My parent's JVC did this as well. It took us a little while to solve it (and through searching for how to fix it, found this post).

Using the JVC's remote control, we pushed the C.C. (closed caption) button and cycled to the "OFF" setting. That fixed it. Using the TV's front panel setting did not fix the issue, we had to use the remote control.

Note: the "text" CC setting re-displays the black box.

Closed Caption function to that channel you select is ON. Make it OFF, when you are in that channel which displays this black box. It will be best to reset the TV to its factory settings first, and then re-tune it. for more details, refer its user manual.

Black box in middle of tv screen

This is a background for text, even though you aren't seeing any text at the time. Since it covers most of the screen, it sounds more like a demo mode screen than closed captioning. Go into your setup menu and make sure that neither of those is selected. If necessary, restore the factory settings. I'm assuming that this is coming from the tv itself, and that you don't have a VCR, Tivo, etc. Good luck!

Black box in middle of screen

It's a text box for either closed captioning or demonstration mode. Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning. If you have trouble doing that, then just restore factory settings.

Try and turn off the closed captioning. I had the same problem and it turned out that the closed captioning was on t1 instead of OFF. Hope this helps!!!!

Can't get rid of black box

You have your TV in the "Teletext" mode. Go into the TV menu and select the closed-captioning menu and turn off the text function. What you are seeing is the result of the TV's captioning circuit latching onto a false text pilot signal and then throwing up the black box on the screen.

How do I get rid of the square black box that suddenly appeared in the middle of my screen. I was trying to adjust the color when suddenly it appeared. I tried turning it off for awhile, but it came back...

I had accidentally hit the text button and turned it on while trying to adjust the color. I turned it off with the remote and the problem went away.
