    Hi Kaj,

Yes, automatic updates did work before. I have not been connected with a buisness or other network with this computer. It is a home computer too though. I have never been conneted with a buisness.

    Thanks Ang

Did it work before? It's most likely a SPYWARE/VIRUS that is disabeling this function (not unusual).

Is this a HOME PC or is it connected to business network? If it's not on a business network - has it ever been?

Please respond here so we can get this solved for you.

    Thanks,

    Kaj

Is this system wifi compatible

Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon. This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look ((())) Make sure its pressed on. Usually a wifi enabled phone, computer, or whatever device, will recognize if there is wifi access near you. Most new HP (Hewlett-Packard) Pavilion notebook computers as of August 2010 include an internal wireless networking adapter, used to connect to a wireless network or router. Once connected to a router, the computer can connect to the Internet or other computers on the same network. If the wireless networking adapter is not allowing the computer to connect to a router, there are several steps that can be used to remedy the problem. Ensure that the wireless network adapter is turned on. Most HP Pavilion notebook computers have a switch that allows you to turn off the wireless adapter. The switch typically is located on the side of the computer or on the front. Ensure that the router and modem are plugged in and functioning. Ensure that the lights are illuminated on each device. Attempt to connect wirelessly using another computer, if possible, to test whether the connection problem is with the router or modem. Unplug the router and modem. Leave the power off for approximately 30 to 60 seconds, then turn them on again. Update the wireless network adapter driver using the computer's "Device Manager." To access the Device Manager, right-click on "Computer" or "My Computer," depending on the version of Windows, and click "Device Manager" from the left-side bar, or from the tab labeled "Hardware." Once in the Device Manager, expand the section labeled "Networking Devices" and right-click on the wireless network adapter. Click "Update driver software" to begin searching for an update. If an update is found, follow the onscreen instructions to install the update. Reinstall the wireless networking adapter if updating the driver does not remedy the problem. To reinstall the wireless adapter driver, right-click on it from the Device Manager and select "Uninstall." Once the device is removed from the computer, restart the computer. Once Windows loads, it will automatically detect and reinstall the driver. Run the Windows 7 Diagnostic Tool (if the computer uses the Windows 7 operating system) to diagnose any networking issues the operating system may be able to correct. To access the Windows 7 Diagnostic Tool, open the "Start" menu and type "Network" into the search field. Click "Network and Sharing Center" and then select "Diagnose and repair" from the left-side bar. The Windows 7 Diagnostic Tool will automatically run and will attempt to repair and establish the wireless connection. Attempt to manually connect to the wireless network. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Setup a new connection or network." Enter the network name, security type and network key into the text boxes and click "Next." If successful, click "Use the existing network" and then click "Connect." The network name, security type and network key can be obtained from the network administrator or by logging into the router. For help logging into the router, consult the instructions included with the router. After automatic updates and a restart, diagonstic lights A & C were yellow and D & B green, nothing comes up on screen, this happen before after an update but i got it to start after several a

If all diagnostic lights are on, then that means that it has something with the software of your computer. The update has affected some of the programs inside your computer thus it's booting up fine.

I suggest that you access safe mode and do a system restore from there. If you don't know how to access safe mode, then follow these:

1. Turn off your computer.
2. turn it on and keep tapping F8 until you see the options. You should see safe mode.
3. Use the arrow keys to select safe mode, then press enter.
4. Your computer should boot up to safe mode.
5. Access the system restore. You can find it in accessories, system tools, system restore. or you can search.
6. restore your computer to the known good date where your computer was still working fine.
7. After completing the on screen procedures, let your computer restart by itself (it may take minutes or more). It will restart and it should boot to the normal windows.

Good Luck!

I hope this helps.

This desktop dell vostro turns itself on and off without the button being pushed. sometimes it makes it to windows, and seems to run just fine, then it goes to shutdown by itself... then turns itself back...

Well in the system Bios or setup there are options where you can have the computer turn itself on automatically at a certain time. However, the fact that yours is turning itself on and off seems to indicate that it is either over heating or it is running into an issue when trying to boot and it keeps recycling the boot process. There is an option that you can set that will turn off automatic restart on boot. Turn off the computer and then turn it on and start hitting F8 repeatedly until you see Safe Mode as an option. Scroll down through the options and you will probably see an option that lets you stop automatic restart on boot, and take it if it is there. This will allow you to actually see the error message that is causing your computer to reboot itself.

Application popup: svchost.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x745f2780" referenced memory at "0x00000070". The memory could not be "read". Help me to rectify this...

this is a common error if you try to install a new memory card or if you are infected by a virus. if you tried to install/upgraded a new memory card. these are the thing you need to consider - memory card is not properly installed to the memory slot - memory card is not compatible to the system - if you added a new memory card it means that there is a conflict between the old and new memory card
if you did not install/upgraded a new memory card. these are the things you need to consider - you are infected by a worm/virus. try updating your system by installing system updates. install antivirus software - you might install a software that is having an issue with the memory installed in your system. - Operating system is corrupted need to reinstall the OS. - hardware failure try to check first the memory card then hard disk. or just contact local technician.

Downloaded windows automatic update stuck on 3 of 3 for last few days. tried last known good config does nothing, i always return to updating 3 of 3 cannot get my comp to do anything else. help desperately...

An issue has been identified by Microsoft that, after installing Windows Updates, a Computer displays a Configuring updates: stage 3 of 3. 0% complete message, reboots, comes back to that message again, and repeats the cycle. This problem occurs when Windows Update is attempting to install update 937287.

Follow this procedure to resolve the error:

1. Remove all connected peripheral Devices from the Computer.

2. Press and hold the power button until the Computer completely shuts down.

3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

4. Leave the Computer without any power for at least 30 seconds.

5. Reconnect the Computer to the power supply and then turn it back on.

6. Allow the Computer to start normally.

NOTE 1: Once the Computer has completely started into the Operating System, Windows Updates should automatically finish installing the update. If the update again fails to install completely, restart the Computer in Safe Mode (by tapping the F8 Kay at Start-up) and use the System Restore feature to return the Computer to a time before the issue started.

Click the Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

NOTE 2: To avoid this issue, obtain and install update 937287 from the Microsoft Download Center separately from all other updates on the Windows Update site. Install the update that applies to your version of Windows Vista so that you can successfully install future updates.

For more information about this error, refer to the Microsoft KB Article ID 949358.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yahoo Browser connects to internet, but Explorer&AVG update wont

Yahoo Connects but IE and AVG wont
1. Try opening AVG and adjusting the connection settings.
2. Go to Start/ Network connections/ Local area connection/ General tab/ Scroll down to TCP/IP/ highlight it and click properties. Make sure "obtain IP address automatically" is checked. Under the advanced setting there, DHCP should be enabled.
3. Verify setting in Internet Explorer under: Tools/Options/ Connections/ Lan Settings/ select "automatically detect settings"

You might also check your AVG program for a firewall conflict or block there.

Let me know if this helps

Computer keeps restarting itself

If you are running XP, try starting in the Safe Mode. To access this, at AC power on, start tapping the F8 key; this should bring up a short text menu that gives you the Safe Mode option. If F8 doesn't work, try F5.
If you can get your desktop, open the Start menu, then All programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then System restore.
If you have had your Restore feature turned on (it is by default) you chouls be offered the chance to restore your system to an earlier date. These will be shown on a calendar in bold if there are earlier backups available
Choose a date a couple of days before your fuse blew. This restore routine does not lose any work of yours, but essentially checks and replaces corrupt system files and your settings before the roof fell in.
