Which way to turn the dial on an GE refridgerator to make it colder
The reccomended dial setting is number 5. I would like to know which direction is going to make my fridge colder? So which is colder, turning it to number one or to number ten?

I'm taking a stab at this. But almost every product i have seen, cold is to the left when turning a dial or knob. when it comes to water lines; Hot is almost always left. Hope that helps.Good luck
One should be the warmest and just before off. When you turn the knob, listen for the sound of the compressor turning off or on. If it comes on when you are turning to the higher numbers then the higher the number the colder the freezer.
Hi, some thermostat control knobs and directions to make it colder are different. Here is the best way to find out which way to turn it to make it colder. Make sure you hear it running. Take the control knob and listen carefully while you start to turn it in one direction first. Turn it until you hear the unit shut off. If you turn it all the way to the left and it keeps running, turn it all the way to the right until it stops running. Once you know which way it stops running when you turn it, this will tell you that you need to turn it until it comes back on again and runs. This will be the way it turns to get the temperature to get to a colder setting. When you are doing this, do it very slow and give it about 3 minutes in between each time you start to turn it the other way. On mine it has numbers on it. The higher the number lets say from 1 to 8, the colder it gets, but some are the lower the number the colder it gets. So, you want it to shut off, so wait until you hear it running before you turn the knob. You can open the doors and it will make it come on faster. So when it goes off when you turn the control knob, you will no to turn it the other way for it to come on and it will get colder the more you turn it in that direction. Very easy. PS If it doesn't get colder when you find out which way it goes, you may have a bad thermostat. Please let me know. You can put a thermometer inside to watch the temperature Good Luck, Shastalaker7
I have a danby mini fridge and freezer and noticed the same problem. The temperature dial has NO NUMBERS ON IT! it just has a strip that goes from light to dark blue. That's it. I looked in the manual and it doesn't say anywhere which way is colder...it makes sense that the darker the blue the colder the temperature but why keep us guessing?
Problem solved. 1 is warmer and ten is the coldest setting.
